RE: merging two documents

2006-08-19 Thread Ridder, Fred
It happens automatically. Open the older file and the newer file.
With the newer file in the active window, invoke the Utilities
Compare Documents command. Choose the Summary and
Composite Documents option and run the comparison. The
result will be a new document window that has the name of
the newer file with a COMP suffix, and it will contain all the
content of both documents. Content that appears in the older
document and not the newer one will be tagged with an new
condition tag called Deleted, and the content that appears in
the newer file but not the older one will be tagged with the
Added condition.

My recommendation for the next step is to review all of the
tagged chunks to see if they can be made unconditional or
whether you need to delete something to make the text
read correctly. Once you've reviewed all the additions and
deletions, you can use the Edit Condition Tag button in the
Conditional Text dialog to delete the Deleted and Added
conditions, making the text unconditional in the process.

My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel.

Subject: merging two documents

Hi Everyone,

I have two versions of the same document FrameMaker 7. I would like to
incorporate changes in both documents (books) into a new document.
I read about 'comparing books', but could not figure out how to create a
'new' document that included the changes from both documents.

Any help is appreciated.
Lori

PDF - OT

2006-08-19 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Diana,

Instead of copying/pasting the annotations, try this:

1) Open the original PDF with the annotations.
2) Choose Document > Replace Pages. When prompted for a PDF, choose the
revised PDF.
3) Select the appropriate page numbers in the Replace Pages dialog box and
click OK.

The revised pages should "slide under" the annotations, leaving them intact.

Hello all,

I have a question about copying and pasting lines and circles drawn in a
PDF - using the Acrobat Drawing tools.

I would like to select them and transfer to another PDF (revision) but
when I do, the selection on the clipboard rotates on the new PDF.
(rotates clockwise in the pasting process). The original file's layout
is portrait and never has been rotated. Sounds silly to ask, but I have
an instructor that marks up books (PDF) and uses the PDF as a
presentation in a classroom. The book (PDF) is pretty big and he doesn't
what to take the time to redraw the artwork.

Anyone care to comment why the copy and paste gets rotated and how to
fix it?

FrameMaker doesn't let you control the bookmark text, which always
includes the text including paragraph numbering (unless the autonumber
string is formatted as white).

The FrameMaker-to-Acrobat TimeSavers add-on has several functions
improving the usefulness of bookmarks, one of which can suppress paragraph
numbering (which can be further controlled based on the level).
See http://www.microtype.com/ImprovePDF.html#4 for more information
and examples.

The FrameMaker-to-Acrobat TimeSavers add-on operates automatically
as part of the distilling (no need for post-creation manual operations).
