RE: URGENT: Need help in using fonts in FrameMaker

2011-03-20 Thread Wei Jiang (PT_CN)
Dear Keerthi,

As far as I know, FrameMaker 7 is not Unicode-enabled. Try turning on support
for each language in Control Panel of your OS, or try upgrading to FrameMaker 8
or higher.

Hi Frame users,

I am Keerthi and working on multiple languages. I need to copy the different
languages and port it to FrameMaker 7.1. I am facing the following issues:

Language

Issue

Korean

The Korean fonts (Gulim, GulimChe, Dotum, and DotumChe (True type)) are
available in the FrameMaker font list, but when I copy and paste the content in
FrameMaker and apply the fonts, the content is not the same, there are “?” in
between.

Russian

The Russian font (Arial) is available in the FrameMaker font list, but when I
copy and paste the content in FrameMaker, the content shows “?”

zh-hans

The Chinese font (simsun) is available in the FrameMaker font list, but when I
copy and paste the content in FrameMaker, the content shows “?”

zh-hant

The Chinese font (mingliu) is available in the FrameMaker font list, but when I
copy and paste the content in FrameMaker, the content shows “?”

Can any one help in resolving these issues?

Thanks,

Keerthi

RE: Frame 10 save to Frame 8 files

2011-03-20 Thread Michael Pearson

If you expect it to be reopened and used in 10 again, you should test
to see what a save in 8 does to the 10 data. If could either preserve
it or delete it because it doesn't recognize it... so 10 features may
 be wiped.

Those features will be lost. FM8 will filter out unknown elements when you open
FM10-generated MIF. The elements being ignored are listed in the console
window. I believe this is consistent behavior across all FM versions.

And to make it easier, omsys.com's eval version of MIF2GO includes a
MIFWash utility to s8 ave files (like in a book) to MIF.
And a sample ExtendScript that's supposed to ship with 10 is supposed
 to do the same thing.

So you save to MIF 10, and when it's opened in 8, 8 ignores whatever
 it doesn't understand.

Oddly enough, you can only save as either a Version 10 or version 7 when

If your target version is FrameMaker 5, 6, or 7 use MIF7.
If your target version is FrameMaker 8 or later, be sure to use MIF10.
Background: The text encoding changed with the introduction of Unicode and
you risk losing some characters if you save as MIF7 when you want to
continue with FrameMaker 8 or newer.

URGENT: Need help in using fonts in FrameMaker

2011-03-20 Thread Ragnar Hanås
For Russian, you need to have the font Arial CYR installed. Times new Roman CYR
and a few other fonts are also available. I remember downloading these from
Microsoft. The Arial font is in a file called arial32.exe. I have published
several books in Russian with FM6 and FM7 without problems.

I also got the Simsun font to show Chinese characters nicely for FM6, but don?t
remember exactly how I did this. But I found an old e-mail saying:

You don't specify which version of FrameMaker you're using,
