A, I see. Oh. Pity I didn't know that back at the beginning. OmniG was the

I looked for this sort of option, but could not find it.

Trouble is, I'm locked to 10.4.11 by FrameMaker, at present at least, so
upgrades are becoming problematic.

I can't just remove the CMY, I need to map them onto the K. Would a more recent
version of Acrobat do this? If so, I can maybe find someone who has one and can
do the one-shot conversion of the pre-press file with it?

>PDF/X-3 will not solve your problem as it does not convert color.

No, I wasn't looking for it as a solution to that, but merely as a recognisable
standard for the printers. I'm still trying to find out if they can do the CMY
-> K shift.

You give good advice, but not something I can do when faced with a deadline.
That's my long-term plan, for sure. My commitment to FrameMaker is absolute and
goes back to v 3, 1992.

I do use InDesign as well, but not for textbooks. InDesign's ink manager allows
you to do this sort of thing inside the app.

Thanks for clarifying the issues.

Alternatively, you could extract the FM icon from the FM DLL, (or screencap it)
save it as a graphic, and then assign that graphic for the link in Snow

Frame 9 - setting specific graphic sizes in dita xml jobs

2011-12-15 Thread Pattie Alsop
DITA Data is coming in directly from a content management system. We are trying
to use FrameMaker as the authoring/editing tool, and the final deliverable
would be PDF.
Legacy data is the issue, when it comes into frame all graphics are built as 1
column wide, but they are not scaled to fit within the graphic block.

I don?t know if the best way to control it is through the EDD or read/write
rules.

If I can?t get this to work soon they will go with another xml edit tool.

Hello all,

I?m relatively new to Frame 9. I have worked in previous versions but that was
quite a few years ago.

My problem is this:
DITA XML Job.

EDD has entries for Figure and Image tags.
Ex: Image ?
in all contexts
insert imported graphic file

My page layout is landscape, 3 columns, so when this file opens in Frame, the
graphic is cut off because it should display across the page, and not just in
one column.

I need to be able to control the object properties(?) based on the image width
attribute.
I have 3 different possible width values, 1 column, 2 column, and 3 columns
wide.

How do I achieve that?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

With Arbortext, you would need to ensure you purchased Arbortext Print
Composer or "Arbortext Advanced Print Publisher" as I think it is now
called.

Arbortext Editor alone will not provide the required PDF output.

Hello Guy
I have developed several MIL-STD applications for FrameMaker.

If the requirement is to deliver only MIL-STD-38784 compliant SGML
instances, then the choice of editing software does include FrameMaker,
Arbortext and any other SGML aware application. If you also have to
deliver
formatted output such as PDFs or even paper masters, then the choice is
slightly different.

A FrameMaker SGML application for MIL-STD-38784 would give you a really
nice
editing environment and top quality formatted output. However, that
would
need to be developed for you by a suitably experienced FrameMaker
developer.
I am not aware of any ready-to-run commercial 38784 FrameMaker
applications.

With Arbortext the situation is different. The FOSIs that provide the
formatted output are freely available here:
https://pubsweb.redstone.army.mil/DTD-FOSI/38784-dtd.html

Personally, I have used both, but would always choose FrameMaker over
Arbortext...

I hope this helps.

Best regards

could not be read.

I have located the problem in the xml markup. The errors are due to a missing
tag within an element named .
If I place a tag in the markup the xml flows without problems. I
have tried to modify the DTD and the EDD holdings declaration so that the
subhead element is optional within holdings. I have tried a number of different
declarations. None of them seem to be working.

The declarations currently are set like this:
The DTD declaration is this:

The EDD declaration is this:
Element (Container): holdings
General rule: (mainhead, (subhead?)*, (table*))*

It is still throwing these errors for the holdings markup that does not include
a subhead tag.

Recently a dll file called "Marketing.dll" was updated and replaced the
previous Marketing.dll file. When I flow the xml using this revised dll file it
throws the error. When I flow the data using the previous dll file it does not
throw the error.

Can this problem be resolved by modifying the holdings declarations in the DTD
and EDD, or is the problem tied into the revised dll file?

Does anyone know how to get FM7 (and earlier) document icons to
appear on the desktop on Macs without Classic? On my new intel iMac
running Snow Leopard I see that the icons for some OS9 apps like
PageMill appear correctly, but all I get for FrameMaker docs is an
ugly generic icon.

A, I see. Oh. Pity I didn't know that back at the beginning. OmniG was the
author's choice: he did his own diagrams.

-> K shift.

OmniGraffle is the problem (as far as your issue is concerned). Like most
business-related programs, it works in RGB.
Its drop shadows are RGB and pixel-based, so Illustrator can convert the RGB
to CMYK, but it can't change a the resulting CMYK shadow to grayscale/K-only
shadow.

The easiest thing to do is upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat. You can
convert the entire document to grayscale, removing the CMY seps.
(I don't remember if version 6 can do that or not--it has been too long
since I used that version.)

PDF/X-3 will not solve your problem as it does not convert color.

As an aside, I would either make a commitment to FrameMaker or to the Mac.
If FrameMaker--get a Windows computer, run Boot Camp on the Mac, or get
Parallels (or similar program) to run Windows on your Mac.
For the latter two, you may need a newer Mac, especially for the last
option. Then upgrade FrameMaker and Acrobat.

If you want to say strictly Mac, consider using InDesign (and still upgrade
Acrobat).

Error Due to missing tag

2011-12-15 Thread George, Brenda (CAI)
I am encountering these error messages when I flow an xml file into Structured
FrameMaker 8:

Internal Error: 8004, 6345644, 8487696, 0

and

Adobe FrameMaker (Structured): FrameMaker.exe - Application Error:
The instruction at "0x00cc1940" referenced memory at "0x". The memory
could not be read.

Re: Frame 9 - setting specific graphic sizes in dita xml jobs

2011-12-15 Thread Writer
You still haven't said what you use to create the PDF. However, I wouldn't
bother trying to set up the columns, pages size, etc in the authoring
environment because really all you are creating at that point is unformatted
XML. I would apply all the formatting using the whatever it is you use to
create the PDF. For example, if you're creating the PDF by going from DITA > FM

I have seen references to some plug-ins for FM that allow you to control the
defaults for anchored frames, but I've never used them.

They are:

ImpGraph by Bruce Foster (I'm not sure if this is still available as Mr. Foster
passed away recently).
ShrinkWrapAsIs.dll (http://martinek.us/shrinkwrap.html).

Let us know how you resolve your problem.
