Windows 7 and FM 9p255 marital problems and issues with selecting and saving files

Windows 7 with all relevant updates.
4 Gigabytes Ram 8 hard drives partitioned over 2 terrabytes

I have been using FM since version 6 and earn my keep with this super
program.
However, I must agree with Norton which says FM is slightly unstable, few
users.
I have done all the normal checks, viz .
Chkdsk c:/f on all drives
sfc /scannow using elevated prompt
full memory check
saving files as .mif
running FM without any other applications open or other files.
Still, the program crashes perhaps three times a day
It even crashes without any mouse or keyboard input.

I am not sure where the instability resides, but it manifests itself most
commonly (+95%) when selecting or saving files or preparing to output a .ps
file from within a FM document.
Either FM completely disappears from the screen or I get the mulish and
unhelpful message FM has stopped working. FM then does autosave, but not
always.

Perhaps Framers can help me with the following

1 Windows 7 and IE 9 and FM 9 are out of sync
2 I should not access multiple files across drives
3 Something to do with ntdll.dll file

Any help with this most appreciated

RE: FrameScript Run Error

2012-01-11 Thread Mueller, Klaus
Hello Anton,

Is the file DocUtils.fsl located in the folder
C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\Lib?
Is the path C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\Lib inserted in the
FrameScript search path?
(FrameScript Options | Search Path or fscript.ini [ScriptSearchPath])

Kind regards,
Klaus

I am running FM7.0 on XP Pro SP3.

Until a while ago no problem but now when I run the FrameScript

Any idea of how to solve this issue?

RE: FrameScript Run Error

2012-01-11 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Anton,

Here are a couple of things for you to check:

1) Check the C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\Lib folder and make sure
it contains DocUtils.fsl.

2) Choose FrameScript Options and click the Search Path tab. Make sure
that C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70 is included in the list of
directories. If it is not, click the Add button to add it. Click Save and
try the script again.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you very
much.

R: FrameScript Run Error

2012-01-11 Thread Anton David
Hi Rick,

DocUtils.fsl is where it should be.
In FrameScript Search Path I found the path to SysScripts and to
SampleScripts. I added C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70 but it I got the
same error.

However your instructions put me on the right path. The missing path was the
one including DocUtils.fsl. I added Lib folder path to the Search Path tab
and it worked.

Thank you!!

Anton

Here are a couple of things for you to check:

1) Check the C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\Lib folder and make sure

2) Choose FrameScript Options and click the Search Path tab. Make sure
that C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70 is included in the list of

Re: Anchored Frame/Pagination bug?

2012-01-11 Thread Stuart Rogers

On 10/01/2012 6:44 PM, Lynn Gold wrote:

I'm using FrameMaker 10. In several chapters I have a Figure Title tag
containing an Anchored Frame set to anchor Below the Current Line and
Left.

When the Anchored Frame is larger than the amount of space left on the
page, instead of putting the frame below the text on the next page, FM
10 puts the Figure Title on one page and the Anchored Frame on the next
page.

Using Keep with next paragraph on the Figure Title paragraph has no
effect; it still remains on the previous page.

Have I found a bug, or is there something I need to be doing differently?

I think you've found either a bug or deliberately changed behaviour that
Adobe didn't tell us about. In FM 9, my tests show that the
Widow/Orphan setting is respected, and so that number of lines is
carried over a page break along with the anchored frame. You don't
happen to have a forced return at the end of your Title pgf? That, plus
a low W/Orphan setting might cause what you're seeing.

A work-around (or what may be a better practice anyway) is to put the
anchored frame in its own dedicated left-aligned pgf (at insertion
point), then set your Title tag to Keep with Next Pgf. That method
gives you much more control over spacing.

files unless I enable commenting in Acrobat. Is there a way to enable
commenting using any of the above tools that I told you that I have, before
the PDF is generated? We have an automated output system, so I must be able
to configure the settings in one of them without opening the PDF file after
 it’s been generated.

If the answer is no, then will I have any better luck with FrameMaker 10
and Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7? We’re supposed to upgrade this year.

FrameScript Run Error

2012-01-11 Thread Anton David

Hello everybody,

I am running FM7.0 on XP Pro SP3.

Until a while ago no problem but now when I run the FrameScript

FrameScript: Run Error (Missing Script) on command (SET) At Line(19) in

Missing Subroutine--Cannot find script--DocUtils (Line(19) Col(0) in

On Line 19 of the script I find the following:

Any idea of how to solve this issue?

Is the path "C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\Lib" inserted in the

Kind regards,

R: FrameScript Run Error

2012-01-11 Thread Anton David
Hi Rick,

DocUtils.fsl is where it should be.
In FrameScript Search Path I found the path to SysScripts and to
SampleScripts. I added C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70 but it I got the
same error.

However your instructions put me on the right path. The missing path was the
one including DocUtils.fsl. I added Lib folder path to the Search Path tab
and it worked.

Thank you!!

Anton

Enabling a PDF for comments from FrameMaker Settings

2012-01-11 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Scott,

Yes, but the question was how to automate this enabling so you don't have to do
it one PDF at a time. This you can't do without an expensive server product.

Using Acrobat 8 and greater, you may enable a PDF For commenting. The person
doing the commenting should have Acrobat Reader 8 or greater.

If the answer is no, then will I have any better luck with FrameMaker 10 and

Re: Anchored Frame/Pagination bug?

2012-01-11 Thread Roger Shuttleworth
Hello Lynn

Just to clarify: You insert the Figure Title paragraph, then add the anchored
frame to the end of it? And you obviously want the figure title (caption) to
stay with the figure.

I just tried this in FM9 p255, and it works fine. What I did was: 1. Fill a
page with Body paragraphs down to near the bottom. 2. Add a FigureTitle para
and an anchored frame set to Below. The FigureTitle para and the frame
immediately jumped to the next page. Neither Body nor FigureTitle has any Keep
with Next or Previous settings.

If I delete successive Body paras previous to the FigureTitle, the FigureTitle
and frame both remain on the next page until there is room for both on the
first page. They are never separated.

Perhaps others can confirm behaviour in FM9 and 10 in order to determine
whether there is really a difference.

One option for you would be to put the frame in its own (empty) paragraph
format (for example, FigureAnchor), and set the frame to At Insertion Point.
Then tweak the Keep with Next or Previous settings so that FigureTitle and
FigureAnchor paras are kept together. I prefer this arrangement in any case
(why, I ask myself...).

Hope this helps.

Subject: Anchored Frame/Pagination bug?

I'm using FrameMaker 10. In several chapters I have a Figure Title tag
containing an Anchored Frame set to anchor "Below the Current Line" and
"Left."

When the Anchored Frame is larger than the amount of space left on the page,
instead of putting the frame below the text on the next page, FM 10 puts the
Figure Title on one page and the Anchored Frame on the next page.

Using "Keep with next paragraph"  on the Figure Title paragraph has no effect;
it still remains on the previous page.

Have I found a bug, or is there something I need to be doing differently?

Thanks,
