automatically splitting a heading between two frames

2012-02-15 Thread Wim Hooghwinkel
Hi Robert,

You could force a line break by adding a tabstop to the autonum that is
aligned on the right margin of the first frame.

lost sideheads on import

2012-02-15 Thread Robert Lauriston
I brought up a frame's properties in Body Pages view and Room for Side
Heads was unchecked, so I checked it, and that fixed it throughout the
document (single flow).

Is that expected behavior when you change to a master page with side heads?

In the book window, select all the chapter files after the first. Right-click
and select Numbering. In the Numbering Properties dialog, go to the Paragraph
tab, select Continue Numbering from Previous Paragraph in Book, and click Set.
Then update the book.

lost sideheads on import

2012-02-15 Thread Robert Lauriston
I've been cleaning up a complicated, crufty template I inherited by
starting with a very clean generic template and importing the elements
I'm actually going to use.

I'm pretty much done, but in the new template all paragraphs are
aligned at the left side head margin. The paragraph tag settings are
identical (Across All Columns and Side Heads or In Column, as
appropriate), as are the text frame settings (Room for Side Heads
checked, width .75", gap .25", side Left).

In the old version, I can see the side head rules both on body pages
and on master pages. In the new version, I see them only on master
pages.

Any troubleshooting tips?

Re: automatically splitting a heading between two frames

2012-02-15 Thread Robert Lauriston
I've got this working, though it's a kludge.

One of my goals here is to eliminate the need to break documents up
into chapter files, so I can't use <$chapnum>.

For the chapter number, I have a background text frame with a Running
H/F variable defined as <$paranumonly[ChapName]>.

The ChapName autonumber format is , character format Hidden.

The Hidden character format is 1 point, color white.

This works OK but I'd prefer to actually suppress the ChapName
autonumber if there's some way to do that.

Re: automatically splitting a heading between two frames

2012-02-15 Thread Robert Lauriston
Clever idea, but it I can't figure out how to make it work. The
ChapNum frame is 1.0" wide. If I try to set a tab stop at 1.0", saving
the paragraph tag fails with "The tab position is too far to the
right."

If I set the stop to .99", the first two characters of the heading are
in the ChapNum box, and the heading gets messed up in the
corresponding PDF bookmark as well.

I tried widening the ChapNum frame so that its right edge is aligned
with the ChapName frame's left edge, that gets rid of the error but if
I set the tab stop past the right edge of the ChapNum frame it seems
to be ignored.

Numbering Issue

2012-02-15 Thread Anderson, Ben
Hello Framers,

I'm having brain-lock today and need some assistance!!!

I'm trying to get the Headings of my bookfile to number sequentially (Section:
1, Section: 2, etc.) from document to document, but they are restarting at 1 in
each document when I generate the book. The auto number format I'm using is:
S:Section . \t.

I know I'm missing something, but am in a crunch and don't have the time to
trouble-shoot.

TIA!!!

No reason. If there's some way to format the autonumber a la CSS so it
floats in the same place as the current first frame that would work
too.

Not sure if this meets your needs, but you can insert a /DOCINFO pdfmark
command in a Postscript frame in your document. It doesn't populate the
.fm File Info per se, but it does cause Distiller to populate the File >
Properties in a resulting .pdf file.

You can use variables and (I think) text insets in the pdfmark.

Hi Joe,

You could use ExtendScript (FrameMaker 10) or FrameScript (all FrameMaker
