Dear Craig,

I experienced this same issue as my company's product reads in *alot* of

XML content, and one of the customers panics whenever they see _any_

FrameMaker 'console' messages.

The mapping appears to be made in an entity formats document:

 C:\Program Files\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\entfmts

which has a rather historic comment that FrameMaker+SGML copies

character formats and user variables from this file while importing

SDATA entities from SGML documents.

This isn't the first occurrence of where Adobe ships files that

reference fonts that are no longer supplied, and probably won't be the last.

Thanks for this clarification Dov. This simplifies things a great deal in that
it implies that for any PS or PDF file that is destined to be sent to a high
quality printing service bureau one can assume that allowing temporary font
substitution in FM will not cause problems with final output having the correct
font (since their devices will have Zapf-Dingbats installed).

Or is that too optimistic a reading? Must the PS or PDF file be produced with

And all the rest. I've got a template here that has a zillion xref formats,

If only houses behaved the same way: click a button and all the rubbish

Can't import Object styles

2013-01-23 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Framemaker 11.0.1.382 I'm experimenting with the new Object Styles
feature. I've determined that I can create a new object style but I
can't import it into other files as I can do with paragraph and
character styles via File-Import-Formats. Object Styles isn't a
listed option, despite what Adobe says on their Help page at
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/WS92ce23f8a8bab2f36a80c197137323b2fd7-7ffc.html

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone know how to do this other
than recreating the style manually in every file?

And speaking of File-Import-Formats, in Frame 9, by default all
formats were selected and you could click the Deselect All button. In
Frame 11, even though all formats are selected by default, the
available button is Select All (although it does seem dependent on
what had been selected when the window was previously used). The only
way to deselect all is to click the button twice. Can anyone else
reproduce this behavior?

Does anyone know how to dock the Object Designer alongside the
Paragraph Design and Character Designer pod/panels? It doesn't seem
to be dockable.

Carol

RESOLVED: Can't import Object styles

2013-01-23 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Turns out that I had forgotten that I was using Rick Quatro's
ImportFormatsSpecial plug-in, and it has some incompatibilities with
Frame11. Rick will provide anyone using his ImportFormatsSpecial
plug-in with a replacement ExtendScript if you contact him.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I thought I was going to have to
reload Frame, which would not have been fun on top of the day I've already had.

generated including a Styles report that specifically lists all paragraph
tags that have an override to them. This report, however, is not available
for a Sun JavaHelp output for many reasons but I still need to be able to
find overrides in the Framemaker source files. Is there a script that is
available to do this, or is there a way to use FM's functionality that I am
not aware of to do this?

Thanks,

Unavailable Fonts error

2013-01-23 Thread Karen Robbins
A file (generated file from a plain text source) keeps displaying the
unavailable fonts error each time it opens.

I've run Silicoin Prairie's Paragraph Tools on this file, and the
only font it finds in the file is HelveticaNeueLT Std--exactly as it
should be. I've checked the master pages (four)--no hidden text
boxes; and the reference page (one)--nothing else there.

What could the error be pointing to?

What version of FM? Which fonts are unavailable (listed in the Console window).

The most likely suspect is a paragraph in the default instance of a table
format. For a new file not based on a template you've created, there are
probably only two: Format A and Format B.

Insert an instance of each table format (with a heading, body, and footing row)
and check the paragraphs in those. If you find the problem, change the
paragraph formats (or redefine them to use the correct font). Then, in the
Table Designer dialog box, click Update All. That will update the default for
that table format to use the changed paragraph formats.

device) and a likely bug/omission in FrameMaker by which a font substitution is
made without making a character remapping to Unicode at the same time.

OT: Adobe Illustrator group?

2013-01-23 Thread Steve Rickaby
I've been searching Yahoo groups to find an active and/or moderated Illustrator
group, but there are too many hits. Can anyone recommend one to me? I seem to
have to relearn the thing every time I have to do heavy work in it.

Finding overrides in Framemaker files

I know it's bad form to post 'me too' messages, but I'm going to anyway. In my
view these plugins are *essential*, and only cost as much as a couple of drinks
in a bar. They will save you hours of work.

And all the rest. I've got a template here that has a zillion xref formats,
named using three different languages (don't ask: it wasn't me). One click in
the cross-reference tools menu and every unused one is gone.

If only houses behaved the same way: click a button and all the rubbish
vanishes. I'd pay a lot for that.

Can't import Object styles

2013-01-23 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Framemaker 11.0.1.382 I'm experimenting with the new Object Styles
feature. I've determined that I can create a new object style but I
can't import it into other files as I can do with paragraph and
character styles via File->Import->Formats. Object Styles isn't a
listed option, despite what Adobe says on their Help page at
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/WS92ce23f8a8bab2f36a80c197137323b2fd7-7ffc.html

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone know how to do this other
than recreating the style manually in every file?

And speaking of File->Import->Formats, in Frame 9, by default all
formats were selected and you could click the Deselect All button. In
Frame 11, even though all formats are selected by default, the
available button is Select All (although it does seem dependent on
what had been selected when the window was previously used). The only
way to deselect all is to click the button twice.

Unavailable Fonts error

2013-01-23 Thread Karen Robbins
A file (generated file from a plain text source) keeps displaying the
"unavailable fonts" error each time it opens.

Thanks,
Karen

What version of FM? Which fonts are unavailable (listed in the Console window).

The most likely suspect is a paragraph in the default instance of a table
format. For a new file not based on a template you've created, there are
probably only two: Format A and Format B.

Insert an instance of each table format (with a heading, body, and footing row)
and check the paragraphs in those. If you find the problem, change the
paragraph formats (or redefine them to use the correct font). Then, in the
Table Designer dialog box, click Update All. That will update the default for
that table format to use the changed paragraph formats.

You are correct, that's just what it was--Times instances in the
default tables. (I did the mif to find this out; there are no tables
in the document itself.) I already thought I'd have to do what you
say... How annoying that I have to do this extra work to undo a
presumptuous default.

Forgive my annoyance; I'm so lucky the listers are here to help!

Much thanks,

Karen

FM 11 crashing consistently on Save Ditamap As > PDF

2013-01-23 Thread Craig Ede

Over the last few days I'm running into FM11 crashing every time I try to use
the Save Ditamap As > PDF option. It also crashes when I try to save the
ditamap as a composite document. I've sent a handful of the many error log
files generated to fmerror at adobe.com so they are aware of the problem. Is
anybody else seeing this? My co-workers "virgin" installation of FM11 does the
same thing when trying to save the same ditamap to PDF. Thanks. Craig

Can't import Object styles

2013-01-23 Thread Roger Shuttleworth
Hello Carol

I'm using FM 11.0.1.382 as well.

When I do File > Import > Formats I see an option for Object Styles at
the bottom right of the list.

All the options are selected initially, and the button says Deselect All.

Not quite sure what you mean by "dock the Object Designer". In my
experience the OD only opens when you right-click an object and choose
Object Properties. Then you have to close it before you can do anything
else.

HTH.

Can't import Object styles

2013-01-23 Thread Craig Ede

I have the same FM version you do, and I see the Object Styles as the last item
in the second column of the Import Formats dialog. Mine comes up with all
formats selected. Craig

Have you tried saving as .mif and searching for that font?
