OT: Corrupt .docx file
Hi - Please excuse this OT post but the people on this list are so knowledgable. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have a Word .docx file that won't open. I discovered that there's an XML- and equations-related bug (thanks, Microsoft!) that works like this: You open a .doc or .docx file, build a lot of equations, save as .docx and close. When you try to re-open it, it won't open and you get a message saying "there's a problem with the content." I've done a lot of research online and tried every converter and rebuilder I can find but nothing opens this. The client can't afford to have me redo the work. Can anyone recommend someone who can get into this and fix the XML? Preferably, free or cheap. Because this is OT, you may want to reply offlist. Thank you SO MUCH for any help. Pat Christenson

.docx is internally a Zip archive, so you can rename the file to .zip, extract the contents, and maybe retrieve some or all of your work.

FM crashes while Save Ditamap As > PDF , Save Ditamap As > Composite document
I continue to have problems with hard crashes of FM11 involving the conditions described below: Framemaker 11 is crashing when I open a ditamap on the network and attempt to SaveDitamapAs PDF or SaveAsPDF. This happens whether I am saving the PDF to the network drive, the desktop or to the myDocuments folder on my C drive . It also crashes if I try to save the ditamap as a composite FM document to any of these locations. Opening a single .dita file and doing a SaveAs PDF does not If I do the same actions with the same collection of DITA files stored on my local drive, the process is successful. Unfortunately, we have to work with our files on the network. Additional information: I can successfully print a PDF of one of the component dita files using File>Print from that network location. But if I try to File>SaveAs > PDF with the View Generated PDF in Acrobat option checked. the process appears to proceed normally but concludes with a message saying "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found." Distiller reports "Empty Job. No PDF file produced." In these cases FM does not crash. My IT guys don't find anything unusual with the permission settings of the network location the DITA files are stored at, but clearly something is upsetting Framemaker. All other functions to the network location work normally. I've sent many of the log files produced by these crashes to fmer...@adobe.com Thanks for any insights. Framemaker 11 crashes constantly when I generate a RH project
Hi Laura I can't help with the RH problem, but just wanted to mention that late last year I spent a few weeks trialling TC4 for outputting a 3000-page FM book as HTML. In the end, I switched to MIF2Go instead and found it hugely easier to use, with better output. Cheers Rebecca >>> Laura Fergusson 02/06/13 1:28 AM >>> Hi all Every time I try to generate a small RH project which is linked to a single Framemaker chapter, I get the message that FM has stopped working. This was working for me yesterday, no problems with this part of it. I've tried just generating, doing an update all etc, same result. I changed a couple of mappings - I selected Ignore Output for ChapterTitle, ChapNumber and AppendixTitle in the mapping dialog. No idea if that is what has caused this. I've also tried starting a new project, but it gets as far as specifying a FM template then crashes. We are using TC4. Has anyone else had these major problems? We are still trialling the TC4 software and although I am a big FM fan I am starting to wonder if this is the right way to go as the integration seems very flaky. Please help if you can, thanks in advance. Laura NOTICE: This message contains privileged and confidential information intended only for the use of the addressee named above.
