I manage a large number of Mailman lists so I can tell you one or two things about the user management side of things that might affect the length of time it takes to see posts. 1. When a person subscribes (or is subscribed by an admin) the default is for the account to be moderated always. That means your postings will wait in a holding area until someone gets to it, reads it and lets it through. If yours is on 'Mod' it might be just an oversight or the list admin might have an issue with your usage. You can send a message to the list admin (listad...@frameusers.com) and ask for your account to be unmoderated. 2. If you post a message using an email address other than the one you are subscribed with, again your message will await moderation because it is from a non-subscribed email address. Again, it is up to an admin to get to it, read it and OK it. In addition to one or another of these delaying factors, if you are posting from a different time zone than the one the admin[s] live[s] in, you need to allow for the fact that (a) admins are volunteers who have day jobs and other joys to fill their days and (b) your daytime might be their night-time and your weekends might be a day out from theirs, either way. On the lists I manage, there are some users who are just plain hopeless at using the lists. They post bulky, fancy, junky HTML when list etiquette really needs more consideration for others ( P L A I N T E X T without screeds of company notices and adverts) and they include huge graphics as attachments because they are too darned lazy to copy just the text of error messages. Most lists are set up to put large messages on hold. The high limit is usually set pretty low, about 1 - 5 KB. Persistent offenders are the bane of a list admin's life as they waste so much of our time. They tend to go on permanent moderation, which pretty much guarantees delays for them. Question about these frameusers lists
Change how you send your email? I use GMail and my posts usually show up on the list almost immediately. Hi, As another long time lister... On 21/06/2013, at 10:05 AM, Theresa de Valence wrote: My questions/replies get posted to frameusers after a day or so. I have been subscriber to these lists for more than 15(?) years but I had to delete/refresh my subscription about a year or two ago. I haven't done that. Does this happen to everyone? Is there anything I can do to get my messages to post sooner? I find the return speed to be variable but it has improved (remember, it used to be a lot worse). It seems to be fairly inconsistent too, with some peoples' posts processing faster than others. That can make the reading of threads quite confusing sometimes. Importing an xml document into structured Frame (version 8)
To recap: I have an file exported from Microsoft Access called Storytext.xml. I want to "import" this into a structured Frame document (template) which will "automatically" reformat the contents according to extant elements/paratags/chartags. You can probably tell that I don't exactly understand what the structured document will be doing, if ever I get it working OK. I have now been through Steve Rickaby's excellent intro to structured Frame. And I have been (successfully) through some parts of the Adobe Structured Application Developers Guide for Frame v.8, but they would be very small parts! I've successfully built an EDD called WhosMEDD.fm for which I have used the structure tools to convert to DTD. I have imported the EDD into my "template" document. I will not be round-tripping, simply reading an .xml file and "processing it" so it ends up in my Frame template. Here's where I am: -- Regarding the structured application, which I found here: /Structure/Structapps.fm I have placed this at the top of the file: -- Application name: WhosM Template: c:\data\MysteryCommunity\CrimeFiction\WhosMurderingCrimeFiction\Story_.fm DTD: c:\data\MysteryCommunity\CrimeFiction\WhosMurderingCrimeFiction\WhosM.dtd Read/write rules: c:\data\MysteryCommunity\CrimeFiction\WhosMurderingCrimeFiction\WhosMrules DOCTYPE:Document -- The read/write rules look like this: fm version is "8.0"; /* * Include all ISO entity mapping rules. */ writer do not output book processing instructions; -- The Storytext.xml file can be opened in Frame, the log says: XML Read Report Log June 21 2:50 pm Source Document C:\Data\Access\Reports\StoryText.xml XML Parser Messages (Document Prolog) C:\Data\Access\Reports\StoryText.xml; line 1 Ignoring book component processing instruction. No book has been generated. -- However, the master pages which get applied to Storytext.xml look like nothing I've ever seen before (a giant 1 in the right hand corner). The entire contents have a Body paratag which uses a Minion Pro 11 pt font. The body lines are broken with CR before and after character tags (Emphasis, etc). The Structure View is all red with dashed lines. Any ideas what is happening? Should the file I'm processing be in the same directory as the application? Are my application file names too long? Where might the "template" it's using be coming from? Thanks for your help, Theresa ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. Re: FrameMaker to Confluence via WebWorks
Maybe. They didn't suggest that when I complained about the export. It's probably what you wanted, but on the offchance that you really want to map Ctrl-V to open the Paste Special menu: go to the folder \fminit\configui If the file customui.cfg exists, open it with a text editor. If it doesn't exist, create a new text file with that name. Add the following line to customui.cfg: > Save and close the file, then restart Frame. Note that this modification means that the Paste Special menu opens every time you press Ctrl-V. Harro de Jong Triview ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. Converting images with searchable text
I'm working in a large, complex book (3000+ pages). One of my co-workers was tasked with creating some new images for the book using visio. I suggested converting the visio images into pdf "images" and pulling them into the book that way thinking that the text within the images would be searchable. The text within the original pdf images is searchable. But once the entire book is converted to pdf, the text in the images is no longer searchable. I understand that I can run OCR on the new pdf file and the text will be made searchable. I was wondering though if there is something I can do in the process of converting the visio figures and pulling them into the frame book where the text would still be searchable after the frame book is converted to pdf? I did some research and there seemed to be varying opinions on this, with some recommending third-party software. But I was wondering what I could do to improve this process without using third-party software? Thanks in advance for your help. Question about these frameusers lists
My questions/replies get posted to frameusers after a day or so. I have been subscriber to these lists for more than 15(?) years but I had to delete/refresh my subscription about a year or two ago. Does this happen to everyone? Is there anything I can do to get my messages to post sooner? Thanks, Theresa ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com.
