Subject: Re: [Framers] Framemaker 2017 save backwards

As I said in the saveAs Mif Re: Framemaker 2017 save backwards topic, I have a
FrameScript that saves to MIF8, MIF10, MIF11, and MIF12, as well as to FM8, 10,
and 11. I think it's based on one of the example scripts Rick shared a few
years back, although I've expanded it to additional MIF formats. It adds a
drop-down to the menu bar that works with both books and individual files, and
I can share it. (And yes, I asked Rick about that a couple years back and he
was okay with me sharing it.)

Re: [Framers] Framemaker 2017 save backwards

2017-07-13 Thread Art Campbell
To follow the KISS principle:

   - If someone on '17 saves as either flavor of MIF, the file that is
created is backward compatible with earlier revs.
   - All features not supported in the earlier revs are discarded.

So AFAIK, there is no reason to make your new employee jump through hoops
-- just do the Save as MIF when she needs to export something for a team
share.

If y'all do FrameScript, you could run up a script that works on files,
book contents, or directories to convert all FM 17 files to MIF like once a
day, at the end of the day and write the files to a subdirectory or other
location.

Pat, You may have a look on http://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker73.html for an
ExtendScript that saves in an older version. It is not yet that flexible.
Savind as
MIF is always in the MIF version of the current FM installation.
