Consider posting a request for better distribution packaging, to the FM
wishlist. IIRC, there's also a features petition somewhere.

Hi all,

Thanks for the prompt. That did fix the problem. The irony is that the lack of
an up-to-date installation set goes directly against part of my job. I maintain
our software installation sets, making sure that the shippng set and the online
set are up to date. My first instinct is that any competent company would do
the same, especially one as large as Adobe. With all those people, there must
be someone doing that!

While I've done online content here and there, I've not done really full-blown,
overall web site design or redesigns. The staff person (a vice president) said
that the current page was done using MadCap Flare.

Due to the EXTREMELY restrictive policies at my previous employer (where I
worked for nine and one-half years before the tech pubs function was
outsourced), we weren't permitted to spend any money on upgrades to our
software or learn new ones. Thus, I have no experience with MadCap Flare.

So I ask about the learning curve; I'm already a 22-year user of FrameMaker,
Acrobat Pro (version 9, an oldie) and other tools. So how similar are these two
(FM and Flare) to each other? And if I spend a few hours a day using the trial
version, any idea on my proficiency?

I know this open-ended, but it's really new territory for me. Plus, I won't
even know if I get the job for a few days or weeks. Just trying to plan ahead.

Thanks all.

Hi,

I recently upgraded from Frame 8 to Frame 2019. I've hit my first hiccup.

I have subtopics that are comprised either partly or entirely of conditional
text. I just attempted to do something that was seamless in FM8; insert a
standalone ToC in selected chapters of my book. It's not complex. There are
about a dozen conditional tags, 4 of which are used the most. It used to work
fine...

Now I find that all conditional text, whether it's characters or the paragraph
mark itself, is dropped from the ToC.

Example, using asterisks to simulate conditional text and numbers to represent
page numbers:

TOPIC
Subtopic 1
*Subtopic* 2
Sub*topic* 3

Becomes:

Topic
Subtopic 1
2
Sub 3
