Re: [Framers] Framemaker licensing and channel publishing questions

2021-02-18 Thread Caroline Tabach
I published to HTML5 I was able to customize it and make the files do
whatever I liked.

I changed the colors to match our application etc.

I stayed with Frame 2017.

[Framers] Framemaker licensing and channel publishing questions

2021-02-18 Thread tammyvb
OK,

So, I might not have a choice, and I might have to upgrade to FM2020, which
thrills me like a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I know that Framemaker
is now a subscription license, and I could go off on a big rant about that,
but. . first question -what do you get for this subscription license - just
the privilege of being able to use Framemaker, or??? Adobe >>USED<< to
provide updates to Framemaker for perpetual license holders, so I am
assuming that updates are still supplied, but is there support of any type
whatsoever or is still the stalk, hunt and kill method between this list,
the forum, and googling searches to get what you need? I just don't relish
the idea of paying over and over again and basically buying this software 3
times over during the time that I use it and I get no improved benefits.

Second, has anyone on this list ever used the publishing feature and
published an FM book to an output other than PDF - specifically HTML5? If
so, what did you like about it, what did you not like, etc? Were able to
successfully produce HTML5 w/ the customizations that you wanted? I have a
TON of questions about this feature, and of course, documentation about it
from Adobe is sparse and hard to find, but I definitely need to know more
for many reasons.

TIA,

TVB

Re: [Framers] "Publish to pdf" crashes FM16 every time

2021-02-18 Thread Sue Thomson
Thanks for the suggestions Winfried.

I think I have now solved the problem.

It turns out that the issue was in the Reference pages. I deleted them all and
then added them back in, one-by-one. The HTML page was the culprit. It must
have become corrupted at some point - I think when I was trying to reduce the
file sizes of my chapter files by replacing embedded images in the Master Pages
with linked images.

Hi Sue,

Your FrameMaker version is the latest one. That's good.
Some questions:
Only Save as PDF does not work? Print to a PostScript file is OK?
Can you activate/deactivate the option Use Acrobat Distiller for PDF generation
(in the Publish pod, PDF, settings file).
Do you have this issue with all your books and single files?
Structured and non-structured?
Also when you create a new file with the FrameMaker default templates?
When this started, was there anything special? Did you install another
application? Any software updates? Windows updates?
Any changes in your anti-virus application?
Can you save as PDF when you deactivate your anti-virus application?

Best regards

Winfried

Subject: [Framers] "Publish to pdf" crashes FM16 every time

Hi fellow framers

In recent weeks I have become unable to publish to pdf. FrameMaker crashes
every time I try. I have to resort to "print to pdf" then find something useful
to do while I wait.

I have tried different settings files but it makes no difference. I don't know
what else to try.

Does anyone have any ideas, please?

FYI: I am working with FM v16.0.1, producing structured books containing around
20-30 files The files contain many small graphics (*.png, *.jpg, or *.ai), all
of which are imported by reference from directories beneath the handbook
directory. The finished pdfs are usually 300-600 pages long.
