Re: [Framers] can someone take the reins?

2021-06-26 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Well, the good news is that when I first took over the list, Brad
switched to the same domain host as I use. But short of someone
dying, it is damned difficult to wrestle ownership away from an
owner. That's why we can't let it get that far.

2021-06-26 Thread Scott Prentice
Definitely don’t want to wait for the domain to expire. When that happens it’ll
likely get scooped up by domain squatters who will change a fortune to get it
back.

Might want to contact the current web host and explain the situation. They may
be able to help. Especially if they are also the registrar.

FWIW, try Facebook. Even if there is/are more than one Brad with the same last
name, you can private message them one at a time to find out who’s who.

Re: [Framers] can someone take the reins?

2021-06-26 Thread Steve Rickaby
I'd like to echo all that's been posted on this thread, and thank Carol and
Rick wholeheartedly for all they've done.

Alas, I'm in the same position as Carol, theoretically retired and no longer
using FrameMaker much. But I remain eternally grateful to this group for
helping me attain the dubious heights of designing and documenting a structured
FrameMaker writing environment from a standpoint of pig ignorance (70+ pp of
docs). And to all of you who contributed articles while I edited the FrameMaker
slot for the UK's ISTC: you know who you are.

I really, really hope that FrameMaker doesn't go the way of Interleaf, which
sort of disappeared between the leaves, fell to the forest floor and became
compost. FrameMaker deserves better.

The phone number on the domain registration is the number I left a
message for. On Monday, I will contact Finite Matters and see if they
can put me in contact with him.

The folks on this list are just simply great. I've had several people
respond off list and as soon as I make the last-ditch effort to track
Brad down, I'll get a couple of the new volunteers trained up. We are
going to have to figure out a more long-term solution for domain
ownership, though, so finding Brad is a priority for me. I'm hoping
he will be willing to transfer the domain to someone else.

I believe domain owners' contact information is publicly available at the
registrar.

2021-06-26 Thread A Craig

First, many thanks to Carol and Risk for undertaking this task for the last few
years. Those of us who use the list truly appreciate it.

Second, when the domain expires, if donations are needed to pay for the
renewal, send me a note as I am more than willing to make a contribution.

Hi Carol...

You may know this .. but as a point of interest, it looks like the
frameusers.com domain registration expires in under a year, on
2022-05-23. Hopefully someone can wake up Brad Anderson before that
date. :-o
