Re: [Framers] Including a non-breaking hyphen in a variable
Hi Alison, This is described in the appendix in the section "Typing in dialog boxes". For a non-breaking hyphen enter: \+ https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/using-framemaker/user-guide/WSd817046a44e105e21e63e3d11ab7f7862b-7ffe_ver12.0.html Best regards Winfried -Original Message- From: Framers On Behalf Of Craig, Alison GLI/CA Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2022 1:41 AM To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: [Framers] Including a non-breaking hyphen in a variable Windows 10 FrameMaker subscription (fully updated). We use a project number format to identify our custom projects (eg, G19-6820, H21-2500, etc). I always turn the project numbers into variables but I can't figure out to make the hyphen into a non-breaking version when I create the variable. I know it has something to do with a backslash (\), but I'm not sure what else is involved. Re: [Framers] Including a non-breaking hyphen in a variable
I didn't see the original query, but the answer is actually contained in almost every edition of the hard-copy manual. Look in the appendixes for one called "Typing in dialog boxes". This appendix contains tables listing all of the "escape codes" for characters that cannot be typed directly with a single keyboard keystroke. For the Windows version of Framemaker, the "escape" character is the backslash, which is the first character of every one of the listed codes. -FR From: Framers on behalf of Peter Gold Sent: Wednesday, May 11, 2022 8:42 PM To: An email list for people using Adobe FrameMaker software. Re: [Framers] OT: Product Marketing Lingo
It would seem that in a product name you want to have the fundamental descriptive stuff first (i.e. what is it, including adjectives). In that way you are pointing out the valuable part of the product (it is an Audio Analyzer). The MX100, while critically defining the product, can follow that, since you have to have dug into a variety of audio analyzers to even begin to recognize that the MX100 is what you need over the competition’s GSP10xP model. With translation now often a part of manuals, the issue of sequence in product names and alphanumeric designations depends on where a language places the adjectives in relationship to a noun. So much effort is put into product naming that there must be an article discussing the intersection of both these issues (product recognition and product name element sequence in translation). Interesting question.
