RE: Questions about look and feel

2008-05-12 Thread Dan . Gallagher
It seems that the resolution on paper (no pixels) would be crisper than on
screen. So to me the serif fonts would be too cluttery on screen.
Cheers,
Dan--Ft. Lauderdale

Kelly, this is the best description I've seen so far on why serif fonts
might be easier to read on the printed page.

It doesn't seem to address, though, why serif fonts might NOT be ideal
on the screen. I suspect that the simpler forms are easier to read in
the constant light emitted from an electronic display, but that isn't
stated precisely...

Microsoft XP support

2008-04-29 Thread Dan Gallagher
What irks me the most about vista is the overhead required to run it. Why
should I be forced to have a dual processor mega-RAM pc? I don't need that
with XP. I use an old pc for replicating/archiving my digital pictures.
It's running XP and is only a 500mhz PIII with 768mb of RAM and it works
very well. Forget using that pc with vista! I imagine it would crawl.

It's my understanding that the vista overhead is required due to the
encryption in between system components. To me that's nonsense. I'm not
going to steal copyrighted material and shouldn't be penalized because
some do.

Cheers,
Dan--Ft. Lauderdale

Re: Microsoft XP support

2008-04-28 Thread Dan Gallagher
When my XP stops working, that's when I'll either try Linux or buy a
Macintosh. I will NEVER use Vista!
Sincerely,
Dan--Ft. Lauderdale

According to this morning's newspaper, Microsoft plans to discontinue
its support of XP on June 30th. Is this something we should be discussing?

Daylight savings 3 weeks earlier in US

2007-02-22 Thread Dan Gallagher
I subscribe to this group to expose myself to frame since I don't use it.

The reason I leave the auto daylight feature turned off is because with
Quark, a time change means all figures have changed and need to be
reimported. Granted that's an automatic feature, but it's burned me in the
past. It's just not worth it.. It doesn't matter to me whether my doc
stamps are off by an hour.

Cheers,
Dan--Ft. Lauderdale

RE: Dual Monitor(s) ??s

2007-01-15 Thread Dan Gallagher
Thanks to the lone writers STC group, I learned about dual monitors a
couple years back. And I never looked back. Simply pop in a second video
card.

You guys mention apps and which monitor etc.? Our proprietary software
always comes up in the center of my two monitors, split in half. And our
new product's webpage doesn't display properly on my dual-monitor-equipped
PC.

So work still needs to be done and I haven't a clue on what to tell those
developers, other than it displays funny on my pc. Developers: oh it's
your pc, no customers use two monitors. (they don't care)

What is the phrase? Caveat empor?

Cheers,
Dan--Ft. Lauderdale
