Re: [Framers] Numbered List Issue

2023-03-30 Thread david davidartman . com
You have to use a fundamentally different approach.

Explicitly declare the whole numbering scheme for your nested lists (2, in this
example):
Level 1 = N+, A0
Level 2 = N, A+

Use your procedure-introduction heading to reset those numbering lists. Yes, a
heading can have a numbering scheme, vidilicit:
N=0
A=0

So you never need a 'first number' style. Dumbest idea that the intern at Adobe
ever came up with. (That intern might be a VP of development, now, so... Ooops!)

Bonus: conversation to DITA will be easier without an artificial/superfluous
reset style.

HTH. I'm not at a keyboard, and I've been out of FM for yonks.
But that approach is right.

Win 10 with FrameMaker 20 (not the latest Frame version as my company
doesn't allow updates as they are released).

I'm sure the answer to this is easy, but I can't figure it out.

I have a list of numbered instructions. Within that list is an alpha
sub-list under one of the instructions.

When I finish the last alpha sub-list entry and revert to the numbered
instruction list, the number continues counting from the last alpha bullet,
not the previous numbered instruction.

For example:

1.

2.

3.

 a)

 b)

 c)

 d)

5.

Where "5" should actually be "4".

The first numbered and alpha list steps have the following auto-numbering
setups:

.\t

.\t

Second and subsequent numbered and alpha list steps have the following
auto-numbering setups:

.\t

.\t

What am I doing wrong?

I think that you can set default document view in Document Properties. Probably
requires Pro.

   Hi Theresa,
That's a setting in Acrobat which the user has to set. Nothing which
you as the author can control.
The user has to activate Two Page View in the View menu in Page
   Display.
   Best regards

I have a 240 page pdf of Steam Combination Oven Cookbook for a Miele

inserted a reduced front+back cover as page 2 (which I have now
 removed
to the back of the book).
 Now the document prints correctly.
So the new problem is that a correct display in Acrobat in a Two
 Page
 View would be Single First Page, then a display of 2 + 3, 4 + 5,
 etc.
How do I achieve this? (Using Adobe Acobat XI Pro)
 Thanks,

If you don't have 7-Zip, you can rename the file extension to . zip and then
unzip it using the Windows zip file handler.

Tammy,

Not sure that this will help, but every MS file - Word, PowerPoint, Excel - are
also zip files. If you right-click on the file name, you'll see a menu that
includes 7-zip and an option to open the archive file. In the xl folder, you
should see a media folder. If there are any graphics in the Excel file, they
will be listed individually there.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Framers] Graphics question

OK,

This is kinda' a combination question, and I hope that I can articulate the
issue what I am running into. I have many Excel charts/graphics that I must
incorporate into a manual. My SME has provided these graphics in an Excel
spreadsheet, with one graphic per tab/sheet.

I have Excel 2016, and there is a known issue that Microsoft NEVER bothered to
fix in that the Save As Picture option on the graphic context menu (right-click
the any border of the graphic to open the context menu) just got nuked/blown
away after some long ago updates and never added back in to the menu, so the
workaround is to right-click the graphic, select Copy, and then Paste the
copied graphic into a blank PPT slide. You can then right-click on the graphic
in PPT and the Save as Picture option is there, so I do this and then save the
picture as a PNG and it looks just as expected with borders, legends . . .
Nothing is missing in the pasted graphic.

Now, in both the pasted graphic in PPT and in the saved PNG when opened in
SnagIT, the bottom border of the graphic is clearly displayed - you can see all
four borders (top, bottom, and right and left sides); however, when I then
import the graphic by reference into an anchored frame in Framemaker (2019,
64-bit), the bottom border NEVER shows - I thought that maybe it was just a
display funkiness in the source file, but when I save the source file as a PDF,
and open the PDF and even increase the magnification, the bottom border is just
not showing, so after I save the chart as a PNG in SnagIt, I then have to
manually draw in the bottom border over the bottom border that is already
displayed and then I can save the PNG and import it and the bottom border
shows. Does this even make sense?

If anyone has any ideas as to why I am seeing this quirk and what to do about
it, I would sincerely appreciate it.

In Frame, you probably would have to insert the Unicode 202F.

Is there such a thing as a "non-breaking" thin space (esc, space, t).

This would be extremely useful in documents using justified paragraphs as I add
a thin space before and after a slash (for example, in "and/or").

Thanks,
