Re: [Framers] Save as Word?

2016-02-03 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi Caroline

I don't know whether MIF2Go works with Frame 2015, but you can still find
the latest version of MIF2Go here, so maybe you could give it a try:

http://www.mif2go.com/download/registered.html

And the other option is indeed to use Acrobat to export your PDFs to Word.
The latest versions of Acrobat do a fairly good job at this.

Cheers

perfectly acceptable.

[Framers] Save as Word?

2016-02-03 Thread Caroline Tabach
Hi,
I have Technical Communication Suite 2015.

I make PDFs and HTML Responsive Help with FrameMaker.

One of the Managers would like me to create Word files as well so they can
easily copy blocks of text and screen shots into documents they send to
customers and potential customers.

In the past I worked with an old version of Mif2Go, and made very nice Word
files when required.

1. Does Mif2Go work with this version of FrameMaker to make Word files?
(If so, where is the last version)

2. If not, what would be a good way for me to get them reasonable word
files, export from Acrobat? Through RoboHelp?

Thanks

Below is a previous reply on the topic of saving as Word using MIF2GO.
It's sounds like they did not get it to work yet.
I think the Save As option should be fine for internal use, to copy
   text from it.

There is one updated DLL that you need to make Mif2Go compatible with
Frame 12. As for FM 2015, we only tested the 30-day trial and we could
not get Mif2Go to run. We didn't spend any time investigating why. We
assumed it was the same issue as FM 12, that Mif2Go probably needed a
small code update to recognize the new version.

Out of curiosity, why do you need Mif2Go? Saving from Frame to Word is
much better in the more recent versions, or even saving PDF to Word. I
know the older versions of Frame had serious problems saving to Word,
but I don't see that with FM 12. What are you not getting that you
   think Mif2Go will solve?

   Gary

Key for making it work in FrameMaker 12 (and probably FrameMaker 2015
too? but I have not tried that version), is the one file that needs to
be changed. It is described in an older post here or at the website
   perhaps.

you follow the instructions to do a replacement of a DLL, as I recall.

Re: [Framers] Save as Word?

FrameMaker's current Save as RTF feature is much improved. My SMEs find it
perfectly acceptable.

One of the "undocumented features" of Frame--SaveAs RTF is that any
text that is marked with change bars is colored green in the
resulting RTF file. One of my clients hated change bars (which are
mandatory for his company's controlled documentation) and really
appreciates being able to see exactly what text (in green) was changed.

I discovered this because I had been using Acrobat-SaveAsWord but for
some still-not-understood reason, the conversion started mangling the
autonum sequences. For example in Frame a series would be 1.0, 1.1,
1.1.1 but when printed to Acrobat and then saved as Word, the
sequence was changed to 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.1.1, totally ignoring the
anchoring 1.0 level. I use an ancient Word 2003 version and I've
wondered if that could be part of the problem, but at any rate, when
I stopped using Acrobat-Word and went back to Frame-RTF, the
discovery of the green text instead of change bars was a happy serindipity.
