IIRC, the "workaround" is to type something in the first pgf before pressing Enter. I believe it only behaves that way (maybe intentionally so?) if the first pgf is empty. HTH! Richard Richard G. Are you patched to 8.0.4? Lin, p277 does take you to 8.0.4. You can always check at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22=Windows On Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 10:08 AM, Lin Sims wrote: > "About" only tells me that I've got 8.0p277. OK, In any case, other people had reported that NextTag worked if there was content in the paragraph when you press Enter. But if you were just hitting Enter to create spaces, or to set up an empty but tagged file, it didn't. Does it make any difference on your system? Hi Lin, This was fixed with FM 8.04 (8.0p277). In the Help menu click on Updates to download and install it. If that does not work, you'll find it on the Adobe web-site. FM 8 "Next pgf tag" having no effect...
This seems to be a (semi) long standing issue with FM8, in that others have reported having problems with it: to be specific, when pressing return, FM ignores the Next Tag information and adds another line using the same tag. I ran into this issue last night. Since I didn't know that others had experienced it, I thought it was something weird with my installation and I reinstalled everything. Not something I really wanted to do! The Adobe Forums thread (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3c059165) hasn't been updated since April. I was wondering if anyone had found a fix or work around for this in the months since? -- Lin Sims

You want something even MORE odd? The exact same document (as in, it's stored on a thumb drive that I access directly for this) has this issue on my home machine but works perfectly on my office machine. And the day before yesterday, it worked at home, too! Both machines have Frame 8.0 p277, on Windows XP SP3. It's in Structured View, but I'm not using elements or anything, just standard tags. As far as I can tell, this has no effect on what I'm doing since I'm not inserting any elements or attributes. I round-tripped the document through MIF to no avail. As to set up: I created the first tag in Paragraph Designer, pressed return, created the second tag in Paragraph Designer, pulled the definition for the first tag up, and selected the Next Pgf Tag box and chose the second paragraph tag's name from the drop-down list. This is pretty much how I do it every time I want a specific paragraph tag to follow. (I generally don't have text there because the issue cropped up in a template I'm currently creating.) FYI, I have the following plugins installed: Archive AutoText EZVars 3.02 Sourcerer PGF_Whopper TOC Breaker RefIcons CudSpan Doc Tools Paragraph Tools When I get home, I'll try Richard's work around and report back. UPDATE: Re: FM 8 "Next pgf tag" having no effect...
It took a complete, and I do mean complete, reinstall from CD and all the patchers, but things are now working as they're supposed to. All I can think is that, somehow, the installation was bad. Thanks to all for their suggestions, and my apologies if at some point I seemed to get a bit testy at the end. Computer problems do that to me, sometimes, when they don't seem to respond to logic.
