Installing Acrobat 7
We use Frame 7.0 and Acrobat 6.0, though some of us use Frame 7.1. We've just purchased Acrobat 7.0. Is there a preferred list of steps regarding how to best install this? Should we remove Acrobat 6.0 first, or let Acrobat 7.0 uninstall it for us? It didn't require any gyrations like moving from 4 to 5, or from 5 to 6, did. A.u.r.o.r.a Yes this is a humor site! In my experience, the best approach is to use the Windows Add/Remove Programs tool (which I normally prefer to avoid) to remove Acrobat 6.0 and each of the patches for it (you *did* keep current with all the patches, didn't you) before installing version 7.0. My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel. Actually, the only kosher way to uninstall Acrobat under Windows is to use the Windows Add/Remove Control Panel. That invokes the "uninstaller" that is installed by the Acrobat Installer! (Isn't that as clear as mud?) To be very clear about this, you are looking for big time problems if you install Acrobat 7 without uninstalling any previous versions of Acrobat, stand-alone Distiller, and/or Reader. Adobe does not really support concurrent installation of Acrobat, Reader, stand-alone Distiller, and/or multiple versions of any of these. > -Original Message- > From: framers-bounces+isaacs=adobe.com at lists.frameusers.com > [mailto:framers-bounces+isaacs=adobe.com at lists.frameusers.com] > On Behalf Of Fred Ridder > Sent: Friday, January 06, 2006 12:44 PM > To: dbailey4117 at gmail.com; framers at frameusers.com > Subject: RE: Installing Acrobat 7 > > In my experience, the best approach is to use the Windows > Add/Remove Programs tool (which I normally prefer to avoid) > to remove Acrobat 6.0 and each of the patches for it (you > *did* keep current with all the patches, didn't you) before > installing version 7.0. > > My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel. > Fred Ridder > intel > Parsippany, NJ > > >From: Doug > >To: Framers List > >Subject: Installing Acrobat 7 > >Date: Fri, 6 Jan 2006 13:38:04 -0600 > > > >We use Frame 7.0 and Acrobat 6.0, though some of us use Frame 7.1. > >We've just purchased Acrobat 7.0. Coincidentally, I just upgraded from 6 to 7 yesterday. The Acrobat 7 installer made me uninstall 6 before continuing. It doesn't do it automatically for you. Since installation of Acrobat 7, my poor computer is struggling -- apparently full to the brim. I've ordered an upgrade from Acrobat 5.05 to Acrobat 7 Professional; does anyone know if installing that upgrade will go as smoothly as "A" describes here, or should I explicitly uninstall Acrobat 5.05 first? martha -- Martha Jane {Kolman | Davidson} Dances With Words editrix at nemasys.com "Too many words bring about exhaustion." --Tao Te Ching, Chapter 5 (translated by Sheets/Tovey)
