Hi RJ,

Agreeing with the group here, it's great to have you! I attended the Help
Authoring Seminar in Orlando in '02 when you introduced the first version of
RH4FM. Never got to try it due to a software purchasing freeze right after
I returned from the seminar, (h?) but enjoyed the presentation very
much.

I must say that I'm delighted Adobe is finally showing care for a terrific
product that certainly deserves attention.

Best of luck in the new gig,

Hello RJ,

like my fellow Framers, I'm glad to see you back again. I remember you
giving me some great (and swift) RH4FM support. And like John Posada, I
liked RH4FM (and particularly its user interface) a lot more than WWP. Great
product, too bad it didn't get beyond version 1.x.

Good luck and best regards

Hi All,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the group and share with you that as
of Monday, I'm now the FrameMaker Evangelist for Adobe Systems and so
I'm looking forward to contributing to this group and being as involved
and supportive as I can to everyone who uses FrameMaker.

I have been a long-time fan of FrameMaker and a user since the first
version of the product. Along the way, I have spent many years
delivering training on both Frame, Acrobat, RoboHelp, Captivate and
other tools. I also worked for Quadralay (makers of WebWorks) for a
couple of years, and as Product Manager for eHelp-Macromedia (makers of
RoboHelp) my team and I built RoboHelp for FrameMaker.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hi and let you know that several members of
the FrameMaker team will be in the Adobe booth at the WritersUA
conference, so if you are there, please stop by and say hello. We will
also be in Las Vegas for the STC conference, so I look forward to seeing
you there as well.

BTW, we just posted the FrameMaker 7.2 try out software, so feel free to
download it at: http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/

Sincerely,

Re: FrameMaker Evangelist / dashed lines in FrameMaker

2006-04-06 Thread Matthias . Dillier
Hi RJ and hi all

Nice to here, that there is now a FrameMaker Evangelist at Adobe and that
he is watching this list. Maybe this can help to stop the continuing
rumors about FrameMaker being dead.

So, I once more try an old question:

-

Bug in calculation of dashed lines

In FrameMaker 5.5.6 and 6.0 on NT and UNIX I encountered a problem with
dashed lines. When you draw a polyline with many points on it and use a
dashed line style, the line turns into a solid line, if there are many
points one near the other which define the polyline. This is because
FrameMaker begins a new dash-pattern at every point on the polyline. (You
have the same problem with the edges of boxes etc.)
I think that this is a bug in the algorithm to draw dashed lines. In
PostScript, the dashed lines continue regularly regardless of the number
of points on the polyline. The same behavior in Excel, SAS/GRAPH,
different graphics packages ... ... .

What do you think of this problem?
Will there be a fix by Adobe or are there any workarounds?

-

I first posted this question to the list (and to some Adobe addresses) 5
years ago (April 2001) but I still have no solution for the problem and no
answer from Adobe. The problem is still there in FrameMaker 7.0 but I did
not test it with 7.1 or 7.2.

The background is, that I wanted to use the plotting program Grace (see:
http://plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/Grace/) which can output plots in
mif-format. Sometime it would be very nice to be able to use mif to
include and edit plots in FrameMaker instead of having to use eps, as I do
now. But the described bug makes some of my plots (mostly 'business
graphs') unusable, especially when I have to use black and white
lineplots.

Kind regards,
Matthias

I'm surprised that a Mac user can say such a thing with a straight face. I've
got 13 years worth of FrameMaker collateral on my Mac and it's a profoundly
unpleasant time to be a FrameMaker user. Yeah, it works, but with the end in
sight it's almost painful to create new documents with it. The lack of an OS X
version of FrameMaker is the most annoying computing issue I've had in more
than a decade.

You're right on the money, the title means exactly that, so I will do

BTW, I will be in the San Diego office, making periodic trips to San

Thanks,

I have to disagree with you there, RJ.

For me, 1990 through 2003 was the most enjoyable time as a FrameMaker
user. The first two years on NeXT FrameMaker; the remaining on Mac
FrameMaker.

Since Adobe killed Mac FrameMaker, it's been the most frustrating and
depressing computing experience I can remember.

Good luck in your new job, btw.
