RE: URGENT: Need help in using fonts in FrameMaker
For Russian, you need to have the font Arial CYR installed. Times new Roman CYR and a few other fonts are also available. I remember downloading these from Microsoft. The Arial font is in a file called arial32.exe. I have published several books in Russian with FM6 and FM7 without problems. I also got the Simsun font to show Chinese characters nicely for FM6, but don´t remember exactly how I did this. But I found an old e-mail saying: You don't specify which version of FrameMaker you're using, but, at least for versions 7.2 and earlier, you need to set the operating system's language for non-Unicode programs to an appropriate value to successfully use Far Eastern languages in dialog boxes. 1. In Windows Control Panel, open the Regional and Language Options applet. 2. In the Regional and Language Options dialog, display the Advanced tab. 3. Select the language you want to work with, for example Chinese (PRC). 4. Restart the computer. Re: URGENT: Need help in using fonts in FrameMaker
As others mentioned, the solution is to upgrade your three-release-old FM 7 to a newer release that supports unicode fonts. FM 7 does not, but your computer operating system and other applications do -- which is why the fonts show up and can be used with unicode applications. But when you paste them into Frame, the font data is meaningless -- hence the ? placeholders. You might try downloading the current evaluation copy to see how it works, provided your system will support it -- it does require more resources than 7 did. Art Campbell art.campb...@gmail.com ... Re: URGENT: Need help in using fonts in FrameMaker
Hi Keerthi, FM7 text exchange via clipboard with non-CP1252 text is not possible. You can paste your text in Word, apply the target font (Gulim, Arial, etc.) save it as RTF and open/import that RTF file in FM7. For non-Asian text (Russian, Greek etc.), ensure that you have virtual fonts activated (Arial CYR, Arial Greek etc.).
