I read them every week as well. And I put them in the entertainment
category but he does have an excellent hit rate on his
predictions ... as much as 70% over several years. Of course his
predictions are not based on his weekly column, but they are
influenced by the column.

Also, if you have the time, his video series NerdTV http://
www.pbs.org/cringely/nerdtv/ is excellent. It is an interview show
with some of the tech world's luminaries. Each episode is available
for download.

To keep this on topic, the interview with Tim O'Reilly is interesting.

Will.

I second that. Cringley's speculations are most often quite

Of course it is - Cringley is paid to do just that. It's load of fun, too.

And it just won't happen! A very large number of Adobe employees would refuse
to work in tyrannical, cultish environment encouraged by Apple's management.

Would that make any difference? If there is any truth in the rumor at all [and
no, I don't believe it either], it would be the products Apple was after. Sorry
Dov.

It doesn't just give me the warm fuzzies, but the pink wibblies too, with a
good bit of perspiration thrown in.

And didn't I remember reading somewhere that Apple's cash mountain is now so
large that it's had to set up a company in Reno just to look after it? $8
billion or thereabouts. Name of 'Braeburn' [or maybe that was an April 1 piece
and I didn't notice the date]. If they moved on Adobe, they could have 'Golden
Delicious' too.

I don't work for Adobe or Apple. I do enjoy getting a
paycheck. My hunch is most Adobe employees enjoy
getting a paycheck.

Just what would you and the other freedom fighters
do Dov if Apple bought Adobe? Resign en masse and
jump to one of the plentiful jobs out there in the
marketplace? Stay and conduct guerrilla warfare from
inside the company?

Perhaps you won't be given the chance to stay. There
would likely be a large number of pink slips handed
out, and certainly a renegade who writes easily
accessed emails would be handed one.

You've been a great friend to everyone on this list,
Dov. Take care.

Besides, most corporations are tyrannical and cultish. So what is the problem?

I'd say an extremely long shot, if at all. I would be surprised if Adobe
ever sells out to anyone. Adobe is considerably more than self-sufficient,
and I cannot see any business reasons for them to do so.

Cringley has been really out on a limb the last two or three weeks, but I'd
love to see this one come to pass. Apple buying Adobe would be a great
thing. Lots of publicly available information supports Cringley's
speculations, but it still seems like a long shot.

Imagine this office suite
FrameMaker (unstructured version)
spreadsheet as yet unknown, but maybe adapted from AppleWorks
Keynote
FileMaker Pro
Acrobat suite (with Flash)

One gets the warm fuzzies.

Nor would they work for Microsoft (stated to stave off
the usual crew of paranoids on this list) for similar
reasons.
