hypertext command message openfile but keep first file open
Classification: NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED I think this is an Acrobat Reader thing. I use this function a lot, and stress to the users that they must do Edit Preferences Documents and uncheck Open cross-document links in same window. Both files will be PDF documents (yes, I use PDF for presentations instead of PowerPoint). I'm currently using the following command: message openfile C:/temp/fileB.pdf The command works but the problem is that file A closes when file B is opened. Does anyone know how to keep file A open? hypertext command "message openfile" but keep first file open SOLVED!
Great! Deselecting the Acrobat preference "Open cross-document links in same window" did the trick. Thank you, Cynthia and Schlomo. Nothing you can do about this in FrameMaker (unless an add-on is being used, see http://www.microtype.com/ImprovePDF10.html for more info/examples). There is a local viewing preference in Acrobat/Reader that controls whether a linked PDF opens in a new window: Edit Preferences General -- turn off Open cross-document links in same window. Preferences apply to the Acrobat/Reader copy where the PDF is viewed, but not to the PDF file itself. In Acrobat, you can modify the individual link property so that it opens the target file in a new window (this link property is available within Acrobat starting with version 6).
