Re: [Frameworks] 35 mm Projectors For Sale

2018-06-09 Thread Ed Inman
Yes, the smaller lamphouses that will run off single phase power are somewhat scarce and in demand since most commercial theaters were set up with 3-phase service. What kind do you have? I'm using a pair of the ORC 1000's with 750 watt xenons on my 35mm projectors. They run off of regular 110 VAC house current. Have had some trouble finding anyone still willing to work on them but they are both working well at the moment and provide adequate light for my 12-foot back yard screen. I made the leap from 16mm to 35mm about 15 years ago and have never regretted it (though I still like 16mm films too). --Ed-Original Message-

Hmm.  I have two small lamp houses I am not using, I should put them on the market.  Didn't realize the demand was that high.

2018-06-09 Thread Scott Dorsey
Actually 1/100th of advertised might be kind of high as well. There is a LOT
of this equipment pretty much available for the asking right now.

The problem with a lot of this is that you can get the projectors for free,
the lenses for very close to free, but then you find yourself spending a lot
of money on transport, changing oil, replacing bearings, making sure the gate
is in good shape, and probably replacing the lamphouse.

You CAN run this off a modern rectifier, and spend a few hundred dollars for
a VFD to drive the rectifier off single-phase power. The first time you have
to change the lamp, though, you'll be writing a bigger check than you needed
for everything else combined.

You can put a smaller lamphouse on these, and there are some little baby
Christie 800W xenon lamps that take single-phase power and are a great
choice for a home screening room... but they are not cheap and there is a
huge demand for them on the surplus market. The larger lamphouses are
cheap, but they are expensive to set up and maintain.

Don't forget getting a rewind bench, split reels, aperture plates, and all
the other necessary accessories. Most of those aren't expensive either, but
may take some rounding up.

Yes, that price is very high. It may need a power supply, too, and you'll
need three phase 220 power to run them, as well as amps and a dolby
decoder. Shipping will be costly. I had to rent a crane to install mine,
which I got for a significantly lower price. The bid price should probably
be 1/10th of what's advertised.

 STEVE REINKE'S THE HUNDRED VIDEOS
The Hundred Videos, Steve Reinke, 1989-1996, digital projection, 4 hours,
49 minutes In 1990, Steve Reinke decided to make a set of one hundred
videos, planning to produce ten videos a year for ten years, using his 1989
piece Excuse of the Real as the first in the series. At the time, Reinke was
in his mid-20s and living in Toronto; he thought the project would
ultimately serve to constitute his complete work as a young artist. As the
decade proceeded, however, his rate of production increased, and the suite
was realized well ahead of schedule, in 1996, clocking in at just under five
hours total; the average length of each individual video is a little under
three minutes.
