Ross Meckfessel’s The Air of the Earth in Your Lungs has some pretty
interesting hobby-drone footage in it, def worth checking out.

[Frameworks] NYC Moving Sale

2018-05-15 Thread Alex Lake
Hi all—

I’m moving away from New York next week and in the process of packing
realized I should probably get rid of some things.

I have:

A 16mm Pageant w/ no sound. Works well but needs a new picture bulb.

A Singer Graflex which works but needs new belts. As it is now, it will run
at speed for maybe 2 minutes, the heat from the projector expands the belts
which causes the sound and image to progressively come to a crawl.

A Bell & Howell Super 8 projector that needs a new bulb.

A Moviscope which is missing the focus nob and while it works, the
electrical wiring needs to be fixed a little.

A Quasar Film/Tape converter.

A box of hundreds of empty slide mounts and various bulbs for slide
projectors.

Make an offer (no offer too low, I’m looking to get rid of this stuff!)
Pickup in Brooklyn only, preferably before the weekend.

Reply off list.

[Frameworks] New York Screening: Ross Meckfessel

2015-03-03 Thread Alex Lake
Missed the cutoff for the weekly listings, but I am very excited to present
this show at Millennium this Thursday! Beautiful films screening on 16mm,
Super 8, and 8mm! Hope to see some of you there!

-Alex

This *Thursday March 5th* at 7:30pm, Millennium Film Workshop is
excited to welcome filmmaker *ROSS MECKFESSEL* to present a survey of his
own work from the past five years; from the hand-processing and optical
printing of *untitled (I)*, the puzzle structure of *Cheryl*, the diaristic
making-of document Invocation of *Invocation of Uzi*, the intricate
in-camera editing of *untitled (times for)*, the simple lyrical
single-strand *Gita*, to newer work like *The Golden Hour* which draws
complex connections between place, pop culture, and classical sculpture.
Concluding the program will be an excerpt from his newest work-in-progress *A
Century Plant in Bloom (For Ingrid and Roberto)* which is an extension of
his interests in pop music and experimental structures.

All films are New York premieres. Many one-of-a-kind artist made prints and
film originals to be screened. Meckfessel will be present for a Q&A after
the screening.

*untitled (I)* - 16mm - 6 min - (soundtrack by Tatsu Aoki)

*Cheryl* - 16mm - 17 min

*Gita* - Reg. 8mm - 3.5 min

*untitled (times for)* - Super 8mm - 3 min - (co-directed with Lyra Hill)

*Invocation of Uzi* - Super 8mm - 4.5 min

*The Golden Hour* - Super 8mm - 7.5 min

*A Century Plant in Bloom (For Ingrid and Roberto)* - Work in Progress -
16mm on Video - 10-15 min

Ross Meckfessel (b. 1988) currently resides in New York. He works primarily
in Super 8 and 16mm film, often utilizing appropriated images, fragmented
narratives and pop music to create films that emphasize materiality and
filmic experience over linear storytelling. His films have screened
internationally and throughout the United States including at CalArts,
Onion City Film Festival, and The 100 Dollar Film Festival where he was
awarded best 16mm film.

Suggested admission $10 ($5 members)

Millennium Film Workshop is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn, on Johnson Ave
at Porter Ave. It is two blocks from the Morgan Ave station on the "L"
subway line.

Re: [Frameworks] Rally for The Donnell Media Center Wednesday, April 17th, 12:00 PM

2013-04-12 Thread Alex Lake
Just wondering... what's the point of this?

The 16mm films in the NYPL are still available to everyone at the Library
of Performing Arts at Lincoln Center... You just need to call a week ahead
of time and make an appointment... The Reserve Film and Video Collection at
the NYPL is still going strong doing preservations and acquiring new work
(I believe that they got new prints of a lot of Jack Smith films, they're
now holding a few Markopoulos films too)... As far as I know nothing has
been deaccessioned or is at risk...

I understand that it's awful that the city sold the building to developers
who've done nothing with the space but everything that was once in those
walls is still accessible to the public... I never visited the space when
it was there, so maybe I'm not the most informed but is a rally five years
later necessary?
