[Frameworks] Looking to buy Bolex or similar

2020-04-12 Thread George Monteleone
Hi, everyone. I hope you're staying safe.

My trusty Rex-4 was stolen last Fall and I'm ready to invest in a
replacement. Ideally I'd like to find a Rex-5 in nice shape (any extras a
plus.)

I would consider a Beaulieu R16 or Bolex EL *but* I'm not sure if these
have time exposure features, and that's something I'd like to have.

I'm in NYC, happy to pay for shipping if we can make a deal; if you're
within a couple hours of the city I can drive to you and we can do a safe
socially distanced exchange. Please send me quotes or links if you're
interested in selling!

Thanks,

George

Re: [Frameworks] Phase flicker and print timing?

2017-05-09 Thread George Monteleone
Yeah, I was thinking most film printing technology probably predates this
problem becoming common. Was just curious if there was some kind of stock
"frame-by-frame sine wave" flicker setting on printer lights to cancel
phasing, haha. At a certain point, engineering a solution to this problem
ends up equaling the time and expense of a proper reshoot.

Frankly a camera with an adjustable shutter angle at the source is the far
more reasonable solution. The problem went away at 12 fps, larger shutter
angle probably fixes it at 24. Digital fix would work but Filmouts are
expensive too.

I've found / read HMI / flourescent / streetlight phasing isn't always a
problem on a Bolex, but it's a real crapshoot, pretty much impossible to
predict without a test at the location or just using a more sophisticated
camera with reliable monitoring, flicker control hardware and stuff.

[Frameworks] Phase flicker and print timing?

2017-05-08 Thread George Monteleone
Hi all. I was curious if 16mm lab printers are typically equipped with any
kind of "deflicker" mechanisms for footage that has phase flicker.
Obviously there are digital tools for such a thing, but for printing
directly from negative, was curious if color timers have any tricks up
their sleeves to cope with these issues.

It's Bolex footage, so imperfect motor sync partially to blame; LEDs and/or
sodium vapor lamps were also part of the issue, I think.

Thanks,
George

[Frameworks] NYC - looking to trade Kodak 500T for 200T

2017-04-27 Thread George Monteleone
Hi all. I have five 100' rolls of 500T, but it looks like I'll be shooting
this project entirely on 200T. Wanted to see if anyone in NYC would be
interested in a straight swap before I bother to try selling them.
Unopened, they've been in the fridge for a couple of months.

Send me an email.

Re: [Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible

2017-03-29 Thread George Monteleone
Great tips, thanks. Yeah, looks like there's an Ang 17-68 that's dogleg
compatible -- not cheap, but probably best long-term option.

Maybe I can adjust the Berthiot ring in the meantime for camera tests at
least. Thanks again!

[Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible

2017-03-28 Thread George Monteleone
Hi everyone. I'm in NYC, looking to buy an Angenieux 12-120 or some kind
of c-mount lens with a built-in reflex viewfinder compatible with an
Auricon (or CP-16). I need a lens with a viewfinder that extends to the
left side of the camera.

I have a Berthiot 17.5-70 (silver one) but it's not the right thread --
suited for a non-reflex bolex with the viewfinder on the right side. Happy
to talk trade, of course, if interested.

Thanks!
