[Frameworks] About film manipulation

Hi everybody,

I'm beggining to develop some works by manipulating film, so I'd like to 
recopilate a list of artists and cinematographers that, at some point, 
they have worked or are still working with the technique of film 
manipuation.
I would be happy to receive references of creators, videos, or any 
information about people who work by manipulating film or even photograpy.

Hi Nicky,
I'm talking about film manipulation as a way to work with the negative: 
painting, grating, degrading it... like Stan Brakhage did.
Anyway, I'm interested in photographic manipulation too, like in the work of 
Gerhard Richter, who paint the photographs in a very personal way.
