Re: [Frameworks] EIKI slimline 16mm projector query

As I understand things, you'd have less torque on a larger diameter hub.

Think of a pencil and wrapping film on that, it would be like a gear, and
easily wind the material with minimum effort.

A large hub, like a large gear, would need more effort to wind anything.

Anyway, physics of take up reels aside, the problem sounds almost
certainly the TUP clutch assembly inside the machine. These routinely slip
out on these machines/models.

Of course the single timing belt on the Eiki design means everything is
connected to everything else so you'd be wise to get the service manual
and learn how to lube every geared wheel, using correct lube in each case

and take apart and lube the cam tank.

In addition to the belt, there is a slip clutch that goes bad. The belts
should be replaced every decade or so just pre-emptively, but in a pinch
cleaning them with 409 (buyl cellosolve kitchen degreaser) will often help.
If the slip clutch is slipping too much, take it apart, wash the parts
with 409, and put it back together.

Re: [Frameworks] EIKI slimline 16mm projector query

2020-05-15 Thread FrameWorks Admin
I just had an issue with a super-8 projector which is fully electronic, full of
circuit boards. The motor would only run two seconds and it wouldn’t drive the
projector. I was worried there is no way to repair this where I am in South
Korea, with 40 students eager to watch the seven rolls they just developed. It
turned out to be a simple matter of tightening two screws that connect the
ventilator and belt pulley shaft to the motor shaft. Fixed in ten seconds!
After a few days of worrying and calling experts…

No Problem Mark. I have repaired many Pagaents (they are not easy) except the
electronics. It is really just mechanical common sense to fix many of the
problems as long as you are able to open up the projector, most of them can be
fixed relatively easy.

Sounds like a belt issue. Unplug the machine there should be a few screws
to open back. Look inside it will be obvious if belt is loose it should be
tight. It also could just be dirt so check for that. Ape city.com has
manuals for many projectors and this may help show how to remove back cover.

2020-05-15 Thread Mark Street
Hey All,
The take up on this projector is working intermittently. Sometimes it
takes up fine; sometimes it needs a little help at the beginning of the
reel, sometimes it doesn't work at all. I've never worked on projectors
before. How complicated is it to 'repair' it (assuming that is possible)?
I was told it was a belt issue at one point; should I buy and install a new
belt? Tinker? Any illumination much appreciated.
