Re: [Frameworks] Labyrinths and Avant-Garde Cinema or Experimental Media

2019-04-27 Thread Christine Downing
Greetings,
Another film to consider is Sidney Peterson's, "Mr. Frenhofer and the
Minotaur. "
You might take a look at:
. Carl G. Jung on labyrinths
. the history of mazes VS labyrinths. Both words are used inconsistently.
. the use of mazes and labyrinths in garden history, e.g. Hampton Court,
hedge, turf and pavements, and what, if anything is in the center (e.g. a
tree).
. Mithras
. the labyrinth of Chartres Cathedral

Mazes and labyrinths are primary images. Labyrinths have one route through
and mazes offer multiple choices, some of which are dead ends.
. Borges, *Garden of Forking Paths*
. Lewis Carroll's *Alice in Wonderland*, might be included (through the
rabbit hole) and, and, and
. "Gaudi Afternoon" (film) another sort of "Alice" adventure
Best regards.

I wonder if you would consider “SPIRAL JETTY” by Robert Smithson a labyrinth?

2019-04-27 Thread Dinorah
Hola Albert,

I did an expanded cinema installation in 2010 entitled ‘Elusive Landscape’ that
had several manifestations in public green spaces in Miami. One event took
place at Vizcaya Gardens. One aspect of this installation involved having the
audience walk through a labyrinth in the garden at night in order to view the
work projected at the center of it. Not sure if this fits your criteria: the
labyrinth as a viewing process rather than as content.
