Re: [Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible
The best of the Angenieux zooms with finders is the Angenieux 9.5-57. Fast and focuses close. 12-120 only focuses to 5 feet. Not a lens I like. At all…. The ancient 17.5-70 Angenieux with the very rare .7x retro zoom adapter is also nice but usually only available with a long finder. For a CP16 you want the “zero” finder which is very short indeed. > On Mar 29, 2017, at 5:44 PM, Scott Dorsey wrote: > > Yes, the smaller Angenieux zooms of that era are generally sharper and have > less flare than the 12-120, and they are cheaper, but they aren't as common. > > One place in NYC you might look if you're just poking around is Olden Camera > which often has a lot of old weird 16mm gear for sale. Yes, the smaller Angenieux zooms of that era are generally sharper and have less flare than the 12-120, and they are cheaper, but they aren't as common. One place in NYC you might look if you're just poking around is Olden Camera which often has a lot of old weird 16mm gear for sale. However, if you buy an old used lens you probably want to get it collimated by Whitehouse anyway. The 12-120 is okay if you stop it down. It has a whole lot of flare, but that's not always a bad thing. It's a TV news lens; it was designed for news cameramen who needed the widest possible range and to work as quickly as possible. It's still a great lens for that sort of documentary work. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible
Great tips, thanks. Yeah, looks like there's an Ang 17-68 that's dogleg compatible -- not cheap, but probably best long-term option. Maybe I can adjust the Berthiot ring in the meantime for camera tests at least. Thanks again! Re: [Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible
On the versions of the dogleg Berthiot I’ve used, you can change the orientation of the finder by unscrewing a ring at the rear of the barrel. Then the barrel detatches from the C-Mount, and can be re-positioned, either freely or to a different position fixed by tabs and slots, depending on the model. But I second Scott’s dislike of those lenses, and preference for the Angenieux. In addition to being soft, they’re awkward. Folks will say the 12-120 isn’t the sharpest lens either, but it suited my needs OK. There are also dogleg Angenieuxs that are physically smaller, and zoom from like 17-42mm IIRC. They’re reputed to be sharper than the 12-120... > I have a Berthiot 17.5-70 (silver one) but it's not the right thread -- > suited for a non-reflex bolex with the viewfinder on the right side. ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible
I have a bunch of 12-120mm but they don't have the dogleg. You specifically need the model with the dogleg. You need to talk to Whitehouse AV out in LA who is the go-to guy for these lenses. It is possible for the Berthiot to be modified to reverse the finder prism but to be honest it's not really worth the trouble. Those are really not very sharp. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
[Frameworks] Looking for Angenieux 12-120mm lens or another Auricon-compatible
Hi everyone. I'm in NYC, looking to buy an Angenieux 12-120 or some kind of c-mount lens with a built-in reflex viewfinder compatible with an Auricon (or CP-16). I need a lens with a viewfinder that extends to the left side of the camera. I have a Berthiot 17.5-70 (silver one) but it's not the right thread -- suited for a non-reflex bolex with the viewfinder on the right side. Happy to talk trade, of course, if interested. Thanks! -George ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
