Robbie,
It's very easy to remove.
You push in the retractable pin from the side. It's a bit like a 
toilet roll dispenser.
There's a spring inside so be careful not to lose it. The best is to 
reassemble it once you've removed it and to keep it with your camera 
accessories in case you want to put it back.
