Would usual suspects include Caroline Leaf? -Original Message- From: Stephanie Hutin Sent: Monday, November 18, 2013 2:52 PM To: Experimental Film Discussion List Subject: [Frameworks] sand animation examples? Hello everyone, I always appreciate the insightful and thoughtful to questions like these, so here is another: I am planning to give a lecture and workshop on straight-ahead sand animation this week in my animation class. I would like to update my examples list with things I may not be familiar with. Any suggestions for sand animation that are not the usual suspects? Thanks! Re: [Frameworks] sand animation examples?
Hi, Stephanie. This is the one I remember seeing on PBS when I was a kid - The Sand Castle (Le château de sable) (1977) by Co Hoedeman. It's a National Film Board of Canada flick. I got a print of this recently but sadly it's pink as all get out. Not straight - ahead per se, but seminal granular vision nonetheless... Ferenc Caco (Hungary) who specializes in sand animation, early films by Caroline Leaf, Aleksandra Korejwo (Poland, although formally she uses salt), Kseniya Simonova (Ukraine), a number of other Central and Eastern Europeans. 'The Sand Castel' by Co Hoedeman is in fact stop motion film, not a sand animation per se.
