Hi Nick, your work on this is terrific!

You might find original 'Span 8' cameras in Switzerland. Apparently a TV
company was interested in it as a viable commercial format. Martin
Baumgarten describes past uses of this kind of format in the end of his
article here:
http://lavender.fortunecity.com/lavender/569/8mmfilmgauges.html
I tried it once too, but your's is beautifully sharp, mine makes really soft
images.

That's an Athena 16, similar to the Kodak Analyst. Very high quality, you
used to see them a lot in high schools, for sports teams, things like that.
Made in the Valley by a company that folded about 40 years ago.

This must have been someone's personal mod. Maybe they made an 8mm version
or a custom, wide-gate model. Whatever it is, it's rare.

Those Athenas still go for some good money. Most of them are pretty beaten
 up.

Widescreen Centre might have one. They often have wacky old
double-8 stuff in back and I believe they still process double-8
so they should have a slitter.

It's possible to make your own with two razor blades and properly
cut aluminum stock, but the edge is never as clean as if it was
 trimmed with a rotary cutter.

[Frameworks] Preview screening of More Cooks at Star and Shadow Cinema Thursday night

Hello everyone,

A new film by, Deborah Bower and Harriet Plewis and myself, *More Cooks* is
being previewed for friends and funders at Star and Shadow Cinema on

If you're somewhere near the north east of England and you want to come

Try it yourself, stick a piece of paper in the gate of the 35mm projector,

With a 35mm camera that has a mirror shutter, you can adjust the camera
speed and shutter phase so that the image in the viewfinder is completely
blank... that is the time when the shutter is closed and the viewfinder is
open comes when the projector shutter is closed. It can take some juggling
to make everything work out right if you're doing everything wild...
crystal sync makes this much easier...

Hi

Presumably Kahl, http://www.kahlfilm.de/, is the place to go now, but Fuji
still make Velvia right? so Cinevia is still an option.
http://www.cinevia.eu/, I hope they start to sell it in 400'/30m loads. It
doesn't come cheap but maybe these little companies will get stronger if we
move our custom from Kodak - which is a good thing.

Now I all I need is a job to pay for the stuff.

You can process colour print film and colour negative in E-6.

If processing colour negative your first step will be to remove the
remjet, about a minute in water with Borax will do the trick. You'll need
to overexpose the film 2 stops and push 1 stop for best results. The
positive image will have a golden tinge to it. It won't look like
Ektachrome but you will get a good image to work with.

[Frameworks] Cinema interior commission

2016-11-09 Thread mat fleming
Hello everyone,

Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle is offering a commission to an artist or
a screening collective to design and build the interior of their new
auditorium.

The artists' fee is low but there is a little money, travel and
accommodation available for an artist or a team of up to 4 people to join
us for a month and realise an idea with help from a large international
volunteer labour force. This will need to happen over March/April time.

The travel budget aims this at Europeans but we'll consider and try to
accommodate any proposal we really like.

If you would like the full call out please email me at
matflemin...@gmail.com as I don't think I can make an attachment on the
