Can probably be closed, because in the now-supported releases the correct
i915kms.ko gets loaded.

I just browsed around and thought I leave a short note...

I have had this issue since always on my Dell Latitude E7240 with Haswell
i7-4600U (HD4400). Until FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE I was using the default
/boot/kernel/i915kms.ko since the kms port isn't needed for Haswell graphics.

Though, when I recently upgraded to 12.0-RELEASE I gave graphics/drm-kmod
(12.0) a try and the display now always resumes correctly. It must be an issue
with the old base system i915kms, as it's no longer updated if I'm not totally
wrong.
