Thanks for the patch, but I believe that command is for deleting the line but
not substitution so it should be fine.

Hang on manual load of module at single user prompt

Here is the same hang after booting the installer disk single user and then
doing a kldload virtio-random

The system is then unresponsive.

I could only take a screenshot because of vultr's video console.

FreeBSD 13.1 Installer hang at virtio-random

Vultr QEMU Q35 hangs while booting during virtio-random initialization on
FreeBSD-13.1-RELEASE and FreeBSD-14.0-CURRENT.

Vultr engineering has temporarily worked around it by blacklisting
virtio-random on their FreeBSD images and/or falling back to i440fx
virtualization. This requires that users installing FreeBSD from their own
known media have to do one of the following:

* modify their ISO to blacklist virtio-random
* do the kludge of installing a Vultr FreeBSD image (which defaults to i440fx
emulation) and then reinstalling via an attached ISO image.
* setting 'hint.vtrnd.0.disabled=1’ at the loader prompt and booting.

To quickly spin up a VM I use a raw image from the FreeBSD images -- customized
with pre-loaded configuration -- but it has the exact same hang unless I modify
it to blacklist virtio-random.

This bug comment has information from Vultr engineering corroborating the
issue.

bug #254513, comment #c32

I’ve attached images of the FreeBSD-13.1 RELEASE via the VNC console, first
from the boot installer hang and subsequently from single user with a
subsequent kldload virtio-random which causes an immediate hang. Apologize for
the images but the Vultr console doesn’t allow cut and paste of the screen.

Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

[Bug 265533] uchcom: baud rate is not correct for CH34x

2022-07-31 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=265533

Bug ID: 265533
Summary: uchcom: baud rate is not correct for CH34x
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern
  Assignee: b...@freebsd.org
  Reporter: trombik1...@gmail.com

the symptom is that, when uploading code with avrdude, sometimes the result is
successful, but not always.

I have dozens of Chinese clones of arduino nano with CH340C. uploading fails on
about 6 of 10. usually ends up with `expect=0xWHATEVER, resp=0xfc`. during the
process, some commands get proper replies, such as `Device signature = 0x1e950f
(probably m328p)`, others do not. this seems like a baud rate issue.

the Linux kernel driver had a similar issue in the past. but recent kernel does
not, which was verified on Fedora 36. avrdude on the Fedora can upload code to
all the problematic nano boards.

after reading this report on GitHub, i was convinced that the uchcom(4) has
issues.
https://github.com/nospam2000/ch341-baudrate-calculation

when `uchcom_calc_divider_settings()` is replaced with the one in NetBSD, all
boards work. Sometimes, I am facing issues when avrdude verifies the flash
content, but I am not yet sure what is wrong. could not find common
denominators yet. at least, uploading always works with old bootloader (boud
rate 57600), and new bootloader (115200).

[Bug 265532] fbsd-update 13.0 -> 13.1 and active ipfw (open) rulebase during first reboot during upgrade

2022-07-31 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=265532

Bug ID: 265532
   Summary: fbsd-update 13.0 -> 13.1 and active ipfw (open)
rulebase during first reboot during upgrade
   Product: Base System
   Version: 13.1-RELEASE
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: kern

I had several cases where an upgrade from 13.0 -> 13.1 with an
active ipfw ruleset:

# firewall, ipfw based
firewall_enable="YES"
firewall_type="OPEN"

caused the host after reboot to loose ipv4 connectivity.

It probably works if one sets firewall_enable to NO before the reboot
with the 13.1 kernel, and enables it after the final fbsd-update install
and does another reboot.
