libXThrStub.so.6 and FAQ/handbook

2000-03-12 Thread Michael A. Endsley

I did a fresh install of 4.0-2308-current. I have a Compaq Presario
5170 128 megs of ram
and 10gig HD.
Installation went smoothly, except for these 2 problems.
1). The libXThrStub.so.6 file (elf) is missing. It is there for aout
2). I don't have the FAQ or handbook files! I have gone back into
/stand/sysinstall 3 times and
watched it download. There is a difference when I type "df", and I have
tried a "locate handbook"
or "locate faq", "locate FAQ", but they don't show anywhere. The
/usr/share/doc directory is there
and has other directories, but not these 2. I even looked on / for them.

Has anybody else had this problem?
Mike

September snapshots?

1999-09-03 Thread Michael A. Endsley

I am looking for the latest snapshot, but under
ftp://current.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/snapshots/i386, the last listed
snapshot is for 19990827.
Have the snapshots for later dates (Sept) been moved?
Thanks again,
Michael A. Endsley

Still can't install current via ftp!

1999-09-02 Thread Michael A. Endsley

I just downloaded the latest floppies from current (19990827) and tried
installing current on a different machine that did not have a previous
version of FreeBSD on it.
As before (search for vty3 and Alt-F3), once I went through the novice
installation and got to the part to connect to FreeBSD, I could not get to
the vt (ALT-F3) to start ppp.
This is for a new installation.
Should I present this problem to the hackers maillist?
I really think this is a problem that should be fixed by somebody.
BTW- I did a new install of 3.2 and it worked great. It appears something
happened between 3.2 and 4.0.
Perhaps I will have to install 3.2 and then upgrade to 4.0??
Thanks again,
Michael A. Endsley

Re: vty3 and 4.0 snap 080799

1999-08-13 Thread Michael A. Endsley

Brian (and others).
You are correct about the installation. I had a 3.0-R slice, and somehow
corrupted it. I decided I would go to 4.0 and follow current. That is when
the problem started. However:
very early this morning, I got 3.2 (19990812) floppies and did a ftp
installation with those. The "ppp" worked great on ALT-F3! I now have a
base installation and kernel source for compiling.
I won't do a full install of 3.2 because I want to follow current.
If I can provide any other information about what is not working on 4.0,
let me know. I will do whatever to get this working :)

It sounds like ppp is simply exiting immediately. I'll turn debugging

I should have also stated that I tried all the other "F" keys also.
The only vty that is available/active is vty1 for debugging. Every other
  F-key gets the "beep".

fwiw dept.- I have been using FreeBSD since 2.21-R

Errum, if this is a re-install, I may see what the problem is. I
changed sysinstall to run ``ppp install'' as sysinstall now writes an
``install'' label into ppp.conf. Might it be the case that a
reinstall doesn't add the ``install'' label ?

vty3 problem solved, but....

1999-08-11 Thread Michael A. Endsley

I started a fresh installation with todays floppies. During the
installation, I monitored vty1.
What I found out is that ifconfig doesn't recognize/config either my modem
or cuaa0(ppp0).
After clicking "YES" at the "Do you want to try DHCP configuration of the
interface" screen, I switched to ALT-F2. It showed:
"ifconfig: interface ppp0 does not exist
ppp0: not found
exiting"

However, during boot-up, I hit a key to bring up the commands, and typed
"pnpscan". I then typed "autoboot". At the next screen, I used the "CLI"
mode to configure my sound card and modem. For the modem, I used "pnp 2 0
enable os irq04 port0 0x3f8".

What else can I do?
Again, thanks
Mike

vty3 and 4.0 snap 080799

1999-08-09 Thread Michael A. Endsley

I just downloaded the latest snap (080799) and tried installing it.
When getting to the media section and configuring ppp for a ftp install,
I try going to vty3 (alt-f3). However, that vty is not available. I have
tried this 3 times now. Is this broken?
I did a search for this but have found nothing.
Thanks,
Mike
