Re: Kerberos doc needs an update

2022-12-28 Thread Rick Macklem
Nope, I don't have the time/resources to do doc stuff.
(My development laptop doesn't have the space for a
doc repo. I know nothing about the doc tools, etc...)
I currently have the following raw text files that
would be nice to have in the handbook, but I won't
be doing it:
https://people.freebsd.org/~rmacklem/nfs-krb5-setup.txt
https://people.freebsd.org/~rmacklem/nfs-over-tls-setup.txt
https://people.freebsd.org/~rmacklem/pnfs-planb-setup.txt
https://people.freebsd.org/~rmacklem/nfsd-vnet-prison-setup.txt

If it is not obvious what needs to be changed in Section 14.5,
the doc person can email me and I will clarify, although I
think it is obvious from the original email, when you pull
Section 14.5 up on the screen.
Btw, the change to kdc was r270782 was done on Aug. 29, 2014.

Can you gen a PR with a patch? I'm sure the doc folks would appreciate
it.

In 14.5.1, kerberos5_server_enable and kadmind5_server_enable
have been renamed, although these old names still work.

Further down in 14.5.1, it says "service kerberos start",
which doens't work. It is now "service kdc start".
(This was the one that sent me on a wild goose chase.;-)

Maybe someone that can do so could patch the handbook?

Thanks, rick

Kerberos doc needs an update

2022-12-27 Thread Rick Macklem
Hi,

I just set up a KDC, which is easy once you realize
that Sec. 14.5 of the FreeBSD handbook is out of date.
(I was a dummy and spent several hours installing stuff
from ports before I realized it was all in the system,
but the startup file in /etc/rc.d is called "kdc" and
 not "kerberos".)
