bge phy read timeout possibly solved / now make world broken (Re: bge0 driver "PHY read timeout" and pccardd not finding PCMCIA card, DELL Latitude D600, with current of yesterday)

2003-10-26 Thread Andreas Klemm

Luckily I had some old -current SNAP CDs.

1. Tried a snap from Aug 31:
No problems with bge0 interface with -curremnt

2. Updated sources to -current of today.
Compiled and installed only new actual kernel.
   No problems with bge0 interface.

Currently am trying to do make world but it
fails in stage 4.2 - building libraries:

lib/libypclnt/ypclnt_connect.c

Best regards

Please look at these informations:

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-mobile/2003-September/001838.html

bge0 works with 5.1-current kernel of Sept 5th
bge0 fails with later -current

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-mobile/2003-September/001893.html

bge0 works with 5.1-current kernel of Sept 20th

My experience:
bge0 fails with 5.1-current kernel of Oct 24th

bge0 driver "PHY read timeout" and pccardd not finding PCMCIA card, DELL Latitude D600, with current of yesterday

2003-10-25 Thread Andreas Klemm
Hi,

some severe problems with a brand new DELL Latitude D600 laptop.
It has a Broadcom BCM5702 Gigabit Ethernet, ASIC rev. 0x1002,
on board.

On the 1st boot FreeBSD 5.1-current from a self made CD-ROM
(-current from yesterday) paniced during 1st boot from CD (just
before installation). It had a Fritz PCMCIA card inserted.

The next installation attempt from CD was, trying to boot
without ACPI, which succeeded.

Then after installation and reboot it turns out that I can boot
without panic even with ACPI enabled.

But it might be due to one change, I replaced the Fritz ISDN card
with a 3COM 3CCFE575BT, since the broadcom bge0 interface doesn't
run properly.

In short, these are the problems:

1. bge0 driver doesn't find PHY
Laptop is connected with a working shielded CAT 5 cable to
a DLINK DI 804 DSL router who has a builtin 10/100 4-port switch
supporting full and half duplex cabability.

2. pcmcia card is not recognized. 3COM 3CCFE575BT
This card runs fine in -current on a Toshiba Satellite PRO 4360.
You see pccardd -d output at the end of the log.

3. Panic with ACPI enabled and Fritz ISDN card inserted
AVM Fritz!Card PCMCIA v2.0 (info on the label)

I booted now with serial com console and with boot_verbose set
At the end you see
- "uname -a" command- and
- "pccardd -d" output

Any chance to get that fixed ?
Or do you think I'll better using FreeBSD 4.9 with that hardware ?
Has 4.9 broadcom support ?
