I also have an Atom-based netbook and it takes quite long but not that long. I usually compile kernel/world directly there. The method described in development(7) (even if it could use an update by now) may help an _awful_ lot in there .. I don't even build world/kernel on my notebook's Celeron 560 ... and actually I wouldn't even dare to do it on an Atom based netbook. development(7) is really worth a read.
