Hi hackers, could someone tell me what is the status of ICH6 SATA RAID support in FreeBSD ? I have plans to buy a machine which motherboard has ICH6 SATA RAID integrated and i want to know whether i will be able to run FreeBSD on it. Thanks in advance! The hardware part is fully supported on both 5.4 and -current, the soft RAID metadata format is another issue. Current supports 10 different formats so its likely yours will be amongst those. 5.x and earlier does not support the metadata. -- -Søren ___ freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-hackers To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The ICH6R is an Intel MatrixRAID chipset and is fully supported in -CURRENT. DES ICH6R is just like ICH5R in that it's just a dumb ATA/SATA controller with hooks that allow a motherboard BIOS to provide simple RAID functionaly at boot. It's not tied to any particular RAID implementation, and there are likely dozens of companies out there that will put their own, incompatible RAID functionality into the BIOS just like they did with the ICH5R. MatrixRAID is just one of these implementations.
