New X.Org
Hello. I see in UPDATING The default mesa has been updated to 7.6.1 and the default xorg-server to 1.7.7. A switch is available for people that want to use mesa 7.11.x and xorg-server 1.10.6. This requires an nvidia card or Intel+KMS support. I have a Radeon card, so, does this mean I will get xorg-server? Any way to get 1.10? Any advantage into this? Also, I have WITHOUT_NOUVEAU in /etc/make.conf. Should I remove it? I've got two questions: First, Usually I use Swedish. With the upgrade I got an English version. Should I have used any make parameter for Swedish? Failing examples: Firefox, gedit, qt4-designer Successful: xfce4-terminal, ioquake3, compiz I just completed recompiling all ports dependent on libGL with no luck. I had WITHOUT_NOUVEAU in make.conf at the same time as WITH_NEW_XORG, is that the problem? Does this sound like an Xorg problem or a ports/ld problem? I also did 'portmaster driconf', which rebuilt libglut and libGLU. Run pkg_libchk from sysutils/bsdadminscripts to check for missing libraries. Unfortunately no good missing libs: # pkg_libchk opera-11.62_1: /usr/local/lib/opera/liboperakde4.so misses libkdecore.so.7 opera-11.62_1: /usr/local/lib/opera/liboperakde4.so misses libkdeui.so.7 opera-11.62_1: /usr/local/lib/opera/liboperakde4.so misses libkio.so.7 I removed all of /usr/local/lib32 beforehand, just in case... I will rebuild glut GLU and anything else. Is there anyway to get a backtrace on X? Is it as easy as gdb startx? I am confused... In ports we have port calligra which is not Calligra but KOffice from June 2011. As I now Calligra and KOffice are not the same anymore. And my question is why FreeBSD mixed this TWO editors? Thanks. This has happened to me before (I nearly had a heart attack when it did!), and after opening up the case and dusting off the fan blades, voila! It started working again. I'm a heavy cigarette smoker, so my computer is hardly in the healthiest environment for it. Periodic cleaning does help, though. YMMV, of course. :-) -- Conrad J.
