sort out the issues with FreeCAD?

I've got a port for it, but it's probably not 100% quality.

I had sent it to the maintainer some months ago (it was 7.0 at the

Exactly.

I believe the license (LGPL) allow redistribution, though, so the

It's a usability problem if one tries to build the port. I was not
sure whether the distfile was out of date etc.

databases/sqldeveloper/Makefile has a construct in its Makefile that
helps the user to understand where he has to go and where
he has to put the distfile:

.if !exists(${DISTDIR}/${DIST_SUBDIR}/${DISTNAME}${EXTRACT_SUFX})
IGNORE= due to Oracle license restrictions, you must fetch the source \
distribution manually. Please access \
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
 \
with a web browser and follow the link for the ${DISTFILES}. You will be \
required to register and log in, but you can create an account on that \
page. After registration and accepting the Oracle License, download the \
distribution file, ${DISTFILES}, into ${DISTDIR}/${DIST_SUBDIR}/ and then \
restart this installation
.endif

Can you add something like this to the port ?

During the time before the advent of OpewnJDK, one had to do something
similar to get the sources to Sun's Java. No re-hosting allowed.

Thanks David for the hint, but I'm not sure that it applies here,
because OpenCascade does not use Perl directly.

On 03/24/13 13:58, Thierry Thomas wrote:

incompatible with this latest release?

Somewhat...

According to FreshPorts, there are 14 ports which require OpenCASCADE,
all in category cad.

First is opencascade-tutorial, which has been marked broken for as long
as I can remember (and I guess should be removed).

Second is gmsh-occ: this will compile with my port of OpenCASCADE 6.5.x.
Whether it really works I don't know: I don't know this program and I
don't think it's as simple as launching it...

The other 12 ports belongs to Salome: this is hard... if OpenCASCADE can
be considered a big beast, Salome is *HUGE*.
It pulls in gobs of dependencies (GCC44, Python, TCL/TK, QT3, QT4,
boost-all, VTK, omniORBCo, just to name a few) and I wasn't even able
to compile with traditional OpenCASCADE 6.3, since it gives some errors
with QT.

Keep in mind that Salome is at 6.6.0, while our port is at 5.1.4.

Also interesting is cat/netgen, whose Makefile states:

.if ${PORT_OPTIONS:MOCC}
BROKEN= The opencascade port needs to be updated before OCC will work

(this is why I'm cc-ing stephen).

Please also note that some components where removed in 6.5 (e.g. Java
wrappers) and that I ported from scratch, trying to install files in the
standard FreeBSD hierarchy (as opposed to /usr/local/ros which previous
ported used).

My proposal is to rename 6.3 from opencascade to opencascade-legacy or
opencascade63 and introduce a new 6.5.3 port.
I could create the latter and volunteer to maintain it.

What do you think?

Yes, that would be fine! Please go.

You can find a port skeleton here:
http://netfence.it/download/opencascade_port.tbz.

Although I've done a few ports in the past, I don't feel I'm an expert;
so I'd be glad if someone would take a look at this before I submit an

Hello.

Port is at 6.3, but 6.5.1 is out.
Is upgrading under way or planned?

 bye Thanks

Just to let you know this used to work on 6.3, though I cannot test it
anymore now.

I can compile it without any problem on 7.2/i386, though I remove
USE_FORTRAN=yes.

The latter is to avoid compilation with gcc4.4, which will lead to
incompatibilities with other libraries (such as boost) I use on a
project of mine.

It should be fixed now.

Actually, it used to work untill gcc-4.4.4.20100216. Gcc-44 is needed
because f77 has been removed from the base.

Are you sure OpenCASCADE requires f77?
I looked into the source and didn't find any file like *.f or *.for,
although of course they might have other extension or be generated
during the build process.
Also I can confirm it compiles with the base system gcc, although I
don't remember if I had gcc44 installed at the time, so it might also be
it picked f77 from gcc44 anyway.

The whole point of the above is that, due to gcc44's libstdc++ recently
becoming incompatible with older versions, if you mix different g++
versions in the same project, you'll get Undefined symbol errors when
starting your executable.

In my case, I'm linking (amongst others) against Boost and OpenCASCADE,
so I need them to use the same compiler (and use that myself).

Again, this is not a problem with OpenCASCADE only, but potentially
affects any C++ library which is build with gcc44.

Since gcc-4.4.4.20100216, we got errors at linkage:

local symbol 0: discarded in section `.text._ZNSs12_...
local symbol 1: discarded in section `.text._ZNSs12_...
etc.

The OpenCASCADE port was built using devel/libtool22, and this port
installs a libtool file where LD and CC are hardcoded.

To fix OpenCASCADE, I had to link it with g++44, so I switched to the
included libtool.

I guess there might be a problem with devel/libtool22, but I don't dare
patching this beast: it could fix some ports, and break many others...
