pkg_add help

2003-01-06 Thread Douglas Denault
I am trying to install kde-3 via package add. I can not because /var is filling
up. After a few attemps I tried:

pkg_add -p /usr/tmp -t /usr/tmp/instmp.XX -r kde

I can still watch /var/tmp fill up. I finally seemed to make things work by
setting PKG_TMPDIR. I guess I do not understand the purpose of the -p and -t
operands. Any pointers appreciated, I am quite lost on this.

XFree86 and emachines

2002-12-31 Thread Douglas Denault
I installed the XFree86 package using pkg_add. The PC in question is an
emachine with a i810 video card. The gimme config file from doing:

  XFree86 -configure

works, albeit only at 640x480 and uses the vga driver. Attempting to use the
i810 driver yields a varity of errors. I have tried all the "standard" stuff, ie
using xf86cfg, and xf86config putting in the proper settings. I have also tried
using the vesa driver and some of the options that were suggested in a thread on
i810. And yes I have loaded agp.ko. Not doing that actually gives a clear enough
error. Most of the things I tried with the i810 driver gave an illegal
instruction error. With the vga driver all the modes say "insufficient memory
for mode" at all depths. The vga drive seems to recognize 256k on the card. Of
course with win2k it works up to 1280x1024.

My question is does anyone have with working on an emachine with an eView17f
monitor? If so, could I try your config file?

Because I have not been able to get 4.2 working on any of the systems I have
free (old or wierd hardware), I have been hesitant to break any "working"
workstations that are running 4.0.2. Are there any "gotchas" going from 4.0.2
--> 4.2 (assuming the base works)?

Thanks for any thougths and/or help

mailing list software

2002-10-22 Thread Douglas Denault
I was going to look at mail/listmanager to see if it was good enough for my
purposes. Its site seems to be in the xo name space and hence not
reachable. Does anyone know if this is still being actively maintained and if so
how to get it?
