I subsequetnly migrated 5.2.1 -- 5.3 -- 5.4 -- 6.0 and there's no good
sound support since 5.2.1, everything was like and a charm and it is too
slow right now.

Could you be more specific that problems? For instance, do you have
sufficient access to the device node? What does burncd report.

design# burncd -f /dev/acd0 blank

fixating CD, please wait..

If burncd doesn't work, have you tried cdrecord from ports? If you want
to use cdrecord, add the following devices to your kernel (or load the
appropriate modules):
device atapicam# Emulate ATAPI devices as SCSI via CAM
   # Requires scbus and pass
device scbus # SCSI bus (required for SCSI)
device cd # Compact Disc
device da # Direct Access (disks)
device pass# Passthrough device
See my freebsd page for setup tips on this configuration:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~rsmith/freebsd/
thanks, I'll look at it.
AFAIK, you need dvd+rw-tools to record DVDs.
burncd won't handle dvd+-rw ?
oops, I should have read man page, it seems that dvd has special options
on burncd.

Hm, I do not understand why you do not update you entire ports and if

I very understand why I don't update entire ports!
simply. because I don't need it, I don't want to pay extra for downloading
unneccessary stuff, and, after all, what was the reason of splitting
ports-all into ports-*** subcollections ???

the problem you detect has sth. to with it. I compared your cvsupfile to
mine and detect that I use (to keep 4-STABLE in sync):

 *default tag=RELENG_4
 *default host=cvsup2.de.FreeBSD.org
 *default prefix=/usr
 *default base=/usr/local/etc/cvsup
 *default release=cvs delete use-rel-suffix compress

 src-all
 doc-all
 ports-all tag=.

You may see the difference to your tag definition. I recomment at first

what is the difference in tag definition I see no difference.
both of us update ports for HEAD tag.

to write your wanted tag to a single line as I do. If that wouldn't help
(but I'm sure you tried), delete your ports/multimedia and cvsup again.
If that wont work, try to get ports-all and define a refuse file
 (${BASE}/sup/refuse).

 Hope any of that helps,
 Jens
