Wouldn't it much better you use an editor which is able to edit files in

- Programmers File Editor
- Visual Slick-Edit
- WinEdit

BTW, I have not found such kind of programmer editor for X to use on
*nix. All i've seen is screen, quanta and similars that are oriented for
html/php code.

Does anybody know any?

how would i go about fixing the shell so that it will always start with

if bash is installed
	chsh -s /usr/local/bin/bash
else install it from
	/usr/ports/shells/bash2
or
	/usr/ports/shells/bash1

Once installed, you must make it as default shell for the desired user.
You may do as follows:

pw usermod foobar -s /usr/local/bin/bash

where foobar is the username and you must be root to issue this.

Re: SMP Trouble on Compaq ML-530.

2002-10-31 Thread Marcio Merlone
As I can record, I did upgrade scsi card firmware (it was a Compaq Smart
Array 332) and Proliant's firmware also. Then switched from Unixware to
Linux on bios and both processors came up.
This specific machine were locking-up his networking, but I think this
were another issue (bug on nic) and now it runs a Red Hat MySQL server,
it has a workaround for the nic.
Also, notice: my Proliant is not a G2, it uses 2xXeon 800 only.

Dear list,

I have seen that there is building issue with Compaq's SMP boards. I would
like to add my story to it in hopes of receiving some help.

Compaq ML-530 2.2GHz P4 Xeon
4.7-RELEASE

Locking up at point of launching 2nd CPU.

I have tried to use different OS's in the BIOS, e.g. Netware SMP, Linux,
etc. to no avail.

Currently running with a non-smp kernel and will wait patiently
watching the lists for any solutions that appear working.

If you need any more information please e-mail me and I will answer to the
best of my ability.

Re: make clean of /usr/ports

2002-10-25 Thread Marcio Merlone
You can make really simple and straigthforward:

cd /usr/ports
find . -type d -name work -exec rm -rf {} \;

done! I belive it is somewhere on FBSD handbook...

David Oleszkiewicz wrote:

I haven't been that good at running make clean after installing my ports
and could like to clean things up now. I tried running make clean at the
top of the ports tree and it works, it just keeps recursing on
everyones dependencies so ports like autoconf get make clean'ed a
real lot. Is there a way to tell the Make to ignore the dependencies. I
couldn't figure one out from looking at the Make files.

Hello all...

A few weeks ago, there was a thread of someone trying
to get X working with the i810 cheipset. Did this ever
get resolved? If so, could someone send me the final
entry in the thread? Or point me to the archived
thread somewhere? Or, if you happen to know what steps
to take to get this to work, that would really be
appreciated. (and the preferred solution) :)

I'm not sure, but you migth be referencing a thread I did start. I was
using such video card on an Compaq iPaq (desktop). It really is not that
difficult to make it work, just RTFM make it. That is not the problem.
The problem is that the chip is buggy and seems like X developers did
not find how to workaround it 100%. My X kept crashing twice or more a
day and then I found the final solution:

another machine with another video card.

But make it work and test anyway, perhaps you success using it without
crashes, must test. Look for its docs (locate i810) on your filesystem
and follow it.

Re: upgrading installed ports after CVSup

I've CVSup'd my system to 4.7 and all is well. Tonight I CVSup'd the ports

Is there an automated way to upgrade all my installed ports, if an
update is available? Or do I just do it manually by remaking them?

Is this a job for portupgrade? I'm trying that now. What is the accepted
method for upgrading installed ports?

Yes. I did a portupgrade -a on my workstation (Compaq Deskpro PIII 800
(+-) w/ 128RAM and it took about 2 days compiling my 377 installed
packages. I just had to fix some inconsistencies with pkgdb -F
(return-return-return...) first, answer Accept when got to compile JDK
and everything got smooth.
Those inconsistencies came becouse it was FBSD 4.5, upgraded to 4.6 and
to 4.6.2 and now to 4.7 and this was the first time I did portupgrade.

There is no way. Mozilla does not support any mailer (MUA) other than
