Re: Java without Motif/X?
OK, thanks very much. I'm going to look for a different tool that doesn't pull in all of Java. you've all been a great help. best, -Nick Hello Michael, On 02/02/06 Nikolas Britton said: Is it possible to replace Motif with QT, GTK, etc? Java without Motif/X?
Greetings, Has anyone successfully gotten Java (1.4 or 1.5) running on FreeBSD without Motif/X? I'd like to run a gui-less Java app on my server, and would strongly prefer to not install all of X + Motif, and all its potential security issues, just to get Java running. Thanks in advance, -Nick ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Answering machine / voicemail -- email?
Hi all, I'm running a decently fast server with FreeBSD 5.4. I'd like to set up a way that the box can act as a voicemail server, and turn the messages into emails. I see Asterisk as a possible solution, but it seems awfully heavyweight for what I want. Are there any lighter-weight ways to achieve this? If Asterisk is the way to go, what's the cheapest modem card I can buy (for a PCI Express-based Dell SC 420) that can answer the phone, and let the machine receive these calls? It's for use in my home, so it's only 1 analog phone line running into the house right now. thanks, -Nick ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
jdk15 without having to install X Windows?
Hi, I'm trying to install JDK15 (from ports: java/jdk15) on a server that does not have X Windows installed. It appears from the Makefile that Java is dependent upon OpenMotif, which in turn is dependent upon a bunch of X client libs. Does anyone have experience with installing Java without any X windows support? I'd like the keep the number of installed packages on this server to a bare minimum. thanks, -Nick ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Anyone have any ideas? Google doesn't turn up much, either. The thing is pretty new, so I'd wonder if it's supported. You can definitely take a look at the HCL at the website. Support for Alviso (Intel i915) chipset networking?
Hi, I just bought a Sony VGN-S380 laptop, which is based on Intel's Sonoma platform. This includes the Intel i915 chipset. I'm looking for ethernet (not wireless) drivers for it, the fxp driver reluctantly loads, but doesn't recognize that there's a compatible card in my system. Error writing disk when using fdisk from sysinstall
Hi, I'm running FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE on a modern (~8mo old) PC. I am trying to add a new Western Digital 200GB IDE drive to my system (through a Promise Ultra DMA100 controller), and when I try to (W)rite changes to the disk, I get an error dialog box saying ERROR: Unable to write to disk ad4!, then Disk Partition write returned an error status. When I first start the fdisk gui from sysinstall, it complains about the geometry (37621C/16H/63S) and tries to correct it to 24321C/255H/63S (though the original is the correct geometry). I am unable to set the geometry, when I try to change it back, I get the error that it's set incorrectly. From my boot messages, here's the disk and IDE controller card I'm using. atapci1: Promise PDC20268 UDMA100 controller port 0xc400-0xc40f,0xc000-0xc003,0xbc00-0xbc07,0xb800-0xb803,0xb400-0xb407 mem 0xe800-0xe8003fff irq 11 at device 12.0 on pci0 ad4: 190782MB WDC WD2000JB-34EVA0 [387621/16/63] at ata2-master UDMA100 Anyone have any ideas?
