Re: mount msdosfs with hal

2008-09-19 Thread ronggui
You mean by gconf-editor? It is very strange. When I add
-L=zh_CN.eucCN to the key, it won't mount any msdosfs anymore.

PS: the default mount_option is [longnames, -u=]

Thanks.

 You need to add '-L=zh_CN.eucCN' in
 /system/storage/default_options/vfat/mount_options with gedit.
 I use this key to add '-o large' to mount correctly my msdosfs
 partition of 500GB and it works.

 Hope this helps

 Thanks in advance. Best

Standby

2008-09-16 Thread ronggui
Dear Users,

My laptop is ASUS M2Ne, and the OS is FreeBSD 7.0. I would like to
keep my PC standby when it is not in use. I have noticed a web page
about FreeBSD on laptops
(http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/laptop/article.html). It says
that if I want to figure out if the power management system can
support mine, I have to try every possible option. I wonder if there
is any list telling what models the apm or acpi system supports?

If them can not support the Asus M2Ne, and I want to inquire a related
question. If the laptop is on but not in standby or hibernated mode,
and I want to bring it with me, moving from a room to another from
time to time. Will this action bring damage to my laptop? Should I
always shutdown it before I move it?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Execute the command when login

2008-07-02 Thread ronggui
My solution:

add the command to ~/xinitrc
### content of ~/.xinitrc
xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc
exec fvwm
###
xmodmap must come before exec fvwm, otherwise it take no effect.

I tried to put xmodmap to ~/.login as well, but it is not satisfying.
When I login, FB complains, as xmodmap has to executed after X
starts.

Asus works well too.

 The freebsd laptop page is a nice resource, but it's a bit heavy on
 specifics (i.e. I have a laptop I want to install on), not so good
 generally (want to buy a laptop). So anyone have realworld advice?
 I'm not against something used in the 1GHz+ range.

 I have a compaq that is %#*!^$. The pcmcia will not work, the
 ndiswrapper for the broadcom panics, etc. So, compaq is right out
 (the've always maintained their poor reputation, no?) - so compaq is
 out. Seems gateway has an equally bad rap

The best way to keep the system clean?

2007-09-24 Thread ronggui
My problem, many times I install some software from ports, it install
the dependency software. Then after some time, I find that software
isn't what I want, and deinstall it. At this point, the dependency
software isn't necessary as well. Is there a way to clean them
automatically, like the apt-get autoremove in the Ubuntu system.

And the related general question is, what's the best way to keep my
system clean? Thanks.

Re: Spaces in SSID in /etc/rc.conf

2007-09-22 Thread ronggui
I come across the same problem. and my solution is to use hex instead
of normal string.

man ifconfig, you will see:

ssid ssid
 Set the desired Service Set Identifier (aka network name). The
 SSID is a string up to 32 characters in length and may be speci-
 fied as either a normal string or in hexadecimal when preceded by
 `0x'. Additionally, the SSID may be cleared by setting it to
 `-'.

If you add the following line to /etc/rc.conf, It will works.

ifconfig_ath0 = DHCP ssid 0x6d79206e6574776f726b

Hope it helps.

  Hi there,

  I got a low key server who is wirelessly connected to the net using an

  configuration of my wireless interface upon bootup, but the entire line
  reads something like

  ifconfig_ath0=' inet 192.168.0.1 ssid my network '

  No matter how I tweak the quotes (single then double, other way round,
  with lots of \\) I never get my interface to configure properly upon

  shell syntax but this is beyond me or manpages...

  What's the right way to do this?

  One approach would be to navigate the series of function calls defined
  in /etc/network.subr. I just took a brief look, but it's not immediately
  obvious how many times you're going to have to escape exactly what to
  get the behavior you desire.

  Another option would be to make the file /etc/start_if.ath0, containing
  the line `ifconfig ... ssid my network`. This file would be sourced
  when /etc/rc.d/netif starts the network interfaces, before the rc
  variable ifconfig_ath0 is run. You can then omit the variable
  ifconfig_ath0 from /etc/rc.conf.

  For more hints, look in /etc/netif, /etc/network.subr, and /etc/rc.subr.

 Thanks for all your ideas guys, I really appreciate the help. Finally
 got some time to try all of your suggestions, though backwhacking (\)
 the space and/or the quotes makes no difference so I decided in the end
 to stop fighting the quoting wars and to just use /etc/start_if.ath0
 which works perfectly. Not quite as neat as having everything live in
 /etc/rc.conf but it does the trick.

Re: Does FreeBSD support UTF-8 locale well?

I use zh_CN.GBK as a tentative solution, It works but not as perfectly
as I expected. If I use zh_CN.UTF-8, almost all of the Chinese
characters in the fat32 partition can't be displayed correctly when
mounted.

BTW, is there any plan the improve UTF-8 support in BSD community?

 Yes. FreeBSD's UTF-8 support is really bad, and it's practically
 nonexistant when you look at things like collation.

openoffice problem

2007-09-20 Thread ronggui
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /usr/home/wincent]$ locale

LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.GBK
LC_COLLATE=zh_CN.GBK
LC_TIME=zh_CN.GBK
LC_NUMERIC=zh_CN.GBK
LC_MONETARY=zh_CN.GBK
LC_MESSAGES=zh_CN.GBK
LC_ALL=

When I start the OOs, I can input Chinese correctly unless I set
export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8 before I fireup the oos.

Even I can input Chinese by this messy way, but when I save odf by
Chinese filename, the filename is in UTF-8 encoding (and I can open
the file with GBK encoding character as filename). I guess the OOS use
UTF-8 as its default encoding, so my question is how to set the
relevant parameters so that the OOs works fine?

Thanks

In terms of UTF-8 support, Linux seems better than FreeBSD. How do you

Is there any materials about customize hal?

2007-02-26 Thread ronggui

I have installed hal, and I use gnome as my desktop.
My locale is :

MyBSD% locale
LANG=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_COLLATE=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_TIME=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_NUMERIC=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_MONETARY=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_MESSAGES=zh_CN.eucCN
LC_ALL=zh_CN.eucCN

When the hal mounts flash disk, The encoding is something else than
GB2312, which makes me can not read the Chinese character correctly. I
would like to know how to customize the hal.

Is there any suggestion or materials about hal customization?

Thanks.

The problem of non-zero start cluster

Every time I use mkdir to generate a directory in a fat32 file system,
I can not mv it to another directoy. And I use fsck_msdosfs to check
the device, and report that .. entry in /directory.name has non-zero
start cluster. If I fix the problem, I can move the directory using
mv. So anyone know why the problem of non-zero start cluster keeps
occuring?

Thank you very much.
