Re: cvsup connection problems [was Re: how to update source tree without cvs?]

2003-09-15 Thread yew chin
i m using cvsup -L 2 so it should has verbose output.
but unfortunately, it didn't output anything.
i also guess that maybe the connection is slow, so i
keep waiting for the cvsup connection after the
running line.
after a few minutes of froze, it show something like:

Detailer failed: Premature EOF from server
Will Retry at 11:04:54

i m using the same CD to install freebsd in my house
and my friend's house and i have no problem cvsup-ing
at all. That's why at the beginning i guess that there
are some firewall setting prevent me from cvsup-ing in
my school.
Does anyone experience the EOF problems before?
Thanks for looking and answering.

Well, it's not a firewall problem; the connection is
 getting through
the firewall just fine. Check to see if cvsup is
 exchanging any data;
maybe the transfer is just slow. Also, you could
 try increasing the
verbosity of cvsup to see if *it* knows anything
 that's going wrong.

The FreeBSD handbook covers doing it with CTM as
 well, which should be
accessible via FTP and maybe HTTP. Specific file
 versions can be
obtained in a number of ways, according to the
 FreeBSD web site, and
it's possible that you might be able to use cvs
 through your firewall,
even if you can't use cvsup.

   If I recall correctly, that's an out-of-date
 version
   of the server
software. I don't see why it would cause this
   particular symptom, but
perhaps you should try a different server and
 see if
   the problem
   occurs there too.

  Thanks for helping me.
I already try to cvsup for at least 6 different
  server.
But I still have the same problem.
Is that maybe i have an out of date cvsup client?

 An out-of-date cvsup client definitely won't work;
 the last update was
due to a security problem. At least, I *think*
 that's how I remember
it. I may not have had enough coffee today...

I also think that the security update might be the
problem, so i just try different cvsup and i found 1
cvsup server with version 1f.
But i still get the same error message after i try
cvsup.
