amsn and X_OpenFont

2006-05-14 Thread E. J. Cerejo
I'm running FreeBSD 6.1 release and everytime I run amsn and try to login it
crashes. The program comes up asking me to login and as soon as I try to login
it crashes. I get this about X_OpenFont.

It may be because you top-posted, but in my case I could not use "make
install clean" That way I wouldn't have been able to manualy move the
webcam directory, wouldn't I.
Not been installed and deleted in the 'cleaning' action ;-)

I looked and there was no /usr/local/share/amsn/utils/webcamsn
directory! The port did NOT install it (It was made though).

I figure there must be a reason, but I have no idea what it could be.
I did a "make" in the net-im/amsn port dir and copied the
utils/webcamsn to ulsa/utils by hand. After a restart of my amsn the
webcam worked flawlessly!

So, the question remains: WHY is this webcam dir not copied to the
right location after the compilation? Did I miss something? Anybody a
clue?

Yes, you have keep state, and anyway the in-rules should be "from any
port = to any" if they were needed. And now, you see how that would
open your host for attacks.

ps: I like to test it, but don't know how to RESET ipf after making some
changes to the rules. I do know how to restart ipnat (-CF -f filename),
but what's the solution for ipf ??
I recommend using the feature of reading your ruleset into the passive
table first, you can check that your rules parses, and you don't
accidentally open your host (this feature is lacking on pf, I was flamed
when requesting it).

# flush inactive rules (if any)
ipf -IFi && ipf -IFo
# read new rules into inactive table
ipf -I -f
# swap rules
ipf -s
# cleanup: flush inactive rules (if any)
ipf -IFi && ipf -IFo
Instead of just swapping rules in, you might want to play it safe with
  ipf -s && sleep 60 && ipf -s
Cheers, Erik

AMSN

2003-03-10 Thread Dick Hoogendijk
Don't know if the "porter" of AMSN reads this group, but I was very
happy to find out just today that the best MSN imitation (already
available for linux) now also exists for FreeBSD.

If you like (ms) msn than AMSN rulez.
It's beter than the original ;-))
