I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've searched archives, but I haven't see anyone with this exact problem.
I'm running 5.3 and for a very long time startup and shutdown were normal. Suddenly, it has changed so that as soon as it loads the kernel, the console output disappears. I've tried booting to a serial console and get the exact problem there. It's as though the device is not recognized. This came to head last week when the system shutdown because of a power surge and it wanted to boot into single user mode for file system fixes. Even blind, I could tell it wasn't accepting input from the keyboard (serial or via the PS/2 port). I'm thinking its some sort of configuration of the loader, but I can't find it. I have a custom kernel built with this config, in case that's the probem. Any ideas about how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
