NIC problem
I have an Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN NIC that I'm having trouble getting to work. I have FreeBSD 8.3 installed. I looked in the NOTES file under /usr/src/sys/conf for the driver and did not see it listed. It is PCI. I have tried to configure the settings via the sysinstall command post configuration. I read about Project Evil and other options. I wanted to see if someone could help me out... thanks ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-questions-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"
Re: NIC problem
Heya Andy Right under the line for rl0 I see this: options=8 IT only specifies that it uses a VLAN_MTU, which limit's the size of the packet's being transmitted. It does not tell you that you actually use a VLAN thingy. How can I recreate the rl0 interface without the VLAN option? I think it's default (someone correct me if i am wrong), since i have it also. I could really use some help on this one! Any advice is appreciated! NIC problem
I just ran into an unusual problem, and I need some help. I am trying to integrate a firewall in my network, based on 5.2.1.Release and Ipfilter. I actually had everything working, and did something that I think caused my problem. I tried to ssh into my firewall and I accidentally used the wrong interface. Instead of connecting to the NIC connected to the LAN, I tried to connect to the outside interface. Now, somehow there is an option for VLAN when I type ifconfig. Right under the line for rl0 I see this: options=8 What is this, and what does it mean. How do I get rid of it? I tried to do ifconfig rl0 destroy, but that doesn't work. How can I recreate the rl0 interface without the VLAN option? I could really use some help on this one! Any advice is appreciated! NIC problem
Hello, I have recently installed a RealTek 8029 NIC into my FreeBSD machine but am unable to get it to work. The kernel finds and loads it at boot time, and ifconfig displays it. But I get no response when I ping it. What I did notice though, when checking my syslog it displays the NIC and IRQ setting, but doesnt display the Ethernet MAC address. Could this mean the card is faulty, or have I done something wrong? * PS The card is second hand and I dont know if it does work or not. Also I have not tested it elsewhere. You almost certainly have a duplex mismatch. Get the two sides to agree on the duplex setting, and they should run up close to wire speed. NIC problem?
Dear all, I have a DE-220 10M NIC connect to a server with realtek 8139 NIC using cross over cable. The transfer speed usually over 500K bytes. Recently, the server crashed and I have to connect this DE-220 NIC to another server with Intel 82559 NIC using the same cross over cable. After that, the transfer is terrible. Usually below 10K bytes.I see a lot of collision in 'netstat -in' command on intel side but nothing unusual on DE-220 side. Is there any thing I can do to solve this problem? But if you are talking about lag after the password has been accepted, etc, then it is almost certainly a network problem (NIC, Switch/hub, netmask settings wrong, cable, RF from a florescent light) - I had dealt with this a lot over a wireless connection where I wasn't monitoring the signal strength and found that as the signal dropped, so did my lag (and quite significantly). So, I would imaging the same thing would be true of a wired network if there are physical problems. The usual suspects are cable and hub... at least in my experience - even when I was so sure that it wasn't that I wasted two days on a network problem only to find out that the switch port was slowly going bad... If you have any extra equipment (or money) try different NIC's completely, different cables (that shouldn't be difficult since they are so close to one another) and also a different hub. Also, while you are ssh'ing, try pinging the server from the client in a separate window or terminal and see if you ever get "stoppage" - if you do, it almost surely is a network problem. I have a dual P-200 file server that is haveing some connection problems.
